[00:00:03] This is a Bramble Jam Podcast Oh boy, I Thought you're gonna talk. Hello. I thought you're gonna talk for sure I saw you hit the button children of the 90s and beyond and beyond how are we if you're listening?

[00:00:32] If you're listening you're not a child boy turn turn it off right now Turn off right now. If you're not a child of the 90s get out of here. Oh boy. Oh boy. Oh boy Welcome

[00:00:42] Welcome. Mmm. Did he come to send his podcast the podcast is taking over best I can figure Dan The United States the United City not anywhere else and beyond and beyond. Yes, we have listeners all over the globe

[00:00:55] And what oh boy and also because we're doing a Halloween Christmas ish movie We did decorate the studio with shamrocks and I want to be clear that was on purpose The shamrock shake come back this year. Did they just pass? I've never had a shamrock shake really?

[00:01:10] Well, you're wrong. Never have a good I enjoy them. Really is it meant to that's like what's okay? But I feel I mean I didn't get one this year And I think McDonald's had a very like a shorter window for them because I had a friend go on

[00:01:24] St. Patrick's Day to get one and McDonald's is like it's over. They didn't have it on no Patty's day They were like it's over and my friend was like isn't buddy. It's st. Patrick's the day. It's why we're here That's why we're here. It is December 7

[00:01:38] I'm 40 years old true story. I've never been to a McDonald's where the ice cream machine has been down 40 years. Oh, I went I it happened to me a good bit I worked at McDonald's in high school was never down

[00:01:50] I've literally never experienced the phenomenon that is apparently happens all the time everywhere But never to my watch the very in-depth detail about the machine. It's yeah, there's a whole conspiracy behind it

[00:02:04] It's legit there's some something shady going on McDonald's that was right near my college all the time a lot like we go in at night

[00:02:11] And they'd be like sorry no can do and I was like now we would shut down the machine and clean it before we closed We would do that and maybe somebody would walk in and we'd be like sorry, but I never never once was it broken Wow

[00:02:25] I don't think it's ever broken. Yeah Yeah, I don't think so you there I think sometimes you just don't want to yeah I think some of the times they were cleaning it and the other times they were just like especially if you got closer to the

[00:02:37] Clothes so they were just like no because you got to clean those things does now at 19 brand You know what's unbelievable? You know a notification. You know, it's not a conspiracy Dan and Aaron is our reviewers. They are not conspiracies. They are real people. We're up to 56

[00:02:53] Can we make it 60 by next week? Jada J 13 says as the oldest sibling slash cousin born in 2000 I've seen almost every single D comm up until 2017 and since so they went back a little bit. They watched it for I guess

[00:03:13] I don't know. Maybe they haven't seen the first ones But and since my friends were all Nickelodeon slash cartoon Network kids who was a girl network kid get out of here Very few people my age are interested in talking about them with me lucky for me

[00:03:27] Y'all have a similar opinions and a good sense of humor when discussing them giving me a good laugh on my drive home from work Every Friday. Thanks guys. Also, we want you to talk about D comms with us anytime

[00:03:41] You might need new friends. JJ also wants us to know that they watched on channel 50 or 250 I don't know. I'm Gen Z and forgot the TV fair, but also heard the title of her review is

[00:03:53] Healthy balance of nostalgia reality and you know what? That's what we strive for That's before we started this podcast. We did hours and hours of prep where we're like, how do we balance that? Yeah balance it. It's a healthy. It's a healthy

[00:04:06] If you ever are in the studio This is the only show where it looks like we did show prep because there are notes all over the wall They're starting to become just a hodgepodge beluga of notes for everything, but it did start as notes for the show

[00:04:21] He did think about it and I gotta be honest with you I think that the key of having that healthy dose that balance of nostalgia And what was the reality reality is a good old-fashioned drink I'm sorry It's not the drink segment drinking or drinking yeah, it's delish

[00:04:49] Although we have had a good bit of drinks. Yes looking at what we have today I'm not thinking it's a drink, but I don't know what you got in store for us Aaron. What did you bring for delish today? I did think about bringing a drink

[00:05:02] And I did it only because of the hour at which we're filming this We're actually up for the launch. This is a 6 a.m. Podcast We've We normally Crazy what happened yes, we normally record this in the afternoon and Drinking then makes more sense to me

[00:05:23] First thing in the morning wasn't feeling it, but I did think about Making a Kentucky mule okay a thrown a bone to Dan because it's his favorite drink

[00:05:32] And also because the the point of this movie I one of the points of this movie is like overcoming your fears Sure and I have a fear of ginger beer oh What time out? I know really needs to do we're up against it you have a fear

[00:05:50] It's one thing to not like ginger beer you have a fear of ginger beer Yeah, the one and only time I had it was in a margarita, and I did not yeah Gingerbeer bourbon you call today. I love ginger that was the only time

[00:06:06] Joshi I know you're listening you had that margarita as well, and it scarred both of us And I've been afraid to try ginger beer again But everyone I know loves it So I was like maybe I'll do a Kentucky mule

[00:06:22] and I will conquer my fear of ginger and it kind of comes in a bit of a Cauldron if you really yeah, that was a great a really a conquer your fear. Yeah, and it's my favorite drink instead We have delicious Book in front of us so

[00:06:39] Maybe at a more appropriate time. I'll have Dan make us a Kentucky mule. We'll take a video put it on the socials done Just not a chef Yeah always he's taking over the delicious segment no as he and I were talking this morning in show prep

[00:06:55] He was telling me how much more free time he has and I was like this week during spring break But we'll have in the future maybe so he's gonna become chef Dan nope But anyway, I brought a recipe which if you're watching on YouTube. She is holding up

[00:07:10] I'm holding it up if you're watching it's just blinded by the light, but you can see That is what the recipe I found is it cuz they're big is it cuz there's a lot going on

[00:07:25] There's a lot going on. Yeah, I think that's why it looks like an M&M oatmeal Peanut butter yeah I'm mad about that. It looks really good, so I'll make these and Dan will make a Kentucky mule and we'll post that on the social

[00:07:41] Who's this person is eating the cookie boy? Cookie boy Part of our podcast Eating imaginary cookies I am eating imaginary cookies. That's true. Thank you so much for bringing that delicious Recipe recipe and picture I love them

[00:08:00] No, it's making me really happy to look at Dan can do the delicious segment next pop-tart clock is Is approaching let's take a quick break. We'll come back. We will dive into our movie of the week Don't don't do it look under the bed. We'll be right back

[00:08:13] here on No Dan Here on Can't say that Welcome back to decom descendants we are this is movie 11 movie 12 movies 12 12 Don't look under the bed you like dog making another appearance in my top 10 this week it I thought about it It's good. I'm just kidding I

[00:08:50] feel as though I was lied to because we started this podcast under the working assumption that I Had not seen these movies and between the two of you you guys were the pros But I'm to understand correctly that none of us had seen this movie

[00:09:05] So we are not descending from no any sort of knowledge prior knowledge Like look so like as a nine-year-old this movie looked too scary. Yeah I wouldn't show it to my nine-year-old right now between the two of us thus far

[00:09:19] Aside from the first two that are kind of in their own world We have either one of us has seen it or we have some sort of vague working memory

[00:09:29] Yes, I this was all and it was not our fault because Disney aired that one time and then did it didn't So if you missed that first airing like tough luck yeah, so Don't look under the bed

[00:09:44] I guess was the Halloween joint for the 1999 season because it came out on October 9th, so at least it's seasonal Yeah, I'm a little Christmas in there too unlike can of worms that came out May So we're in Middleburg

[00:10:05] Did we get a state they just say middle just middle just it's middle. I'm gonna assume. It's somewhere in Canada Yeah, probably I mean if you're going by where it was filmed, Utah, but D-com really kept a Yukon Yukon there are the other ones overall the bracket brain

[00:10:23] They actually still have a minute that the company musical is also Utah Yeah, and I feel like this isn't the first Utah we've had so far so so they got a Salt Lake shout out love that city beautiful Middleburg a place that I guess apparently thanks to narration

[00:10:39] We were to believe it's a boring town nothing really happens here, so that makes what happens in this movie all The more out there because this is a boring town nothing happens here So the movie kicks off everybody is sleeping and they all wake up

[00:10:57] Very suddenly to the alarms, and they're all just kind of like what's happening They the parents go and they wake up the kids And they're like it's time to wake up and everybody's incredibly tired more so than normal and we everyone is yawning and

[00:11:11] They just I mean yeah, just I I didn't know what was going on at first. I'm like they're all Really the viewer at home saw clocks going that's right quickly Yeah, and so dad decides hey, I always set the times to this specific website

[00:11:29] I'll go check the website and see if that's going on because the Sun's not even no one in 1999 in that family had a cell phone which I mean

[00:11:36] Which is I mean my that was that would have been a 50 good question about how does I had a cell phone as a? Like that was my first cell phone 1999, but even let's talk about digital clocks like every clock

[00:11:49] Digital or not like my first cell phone was like 2007 yeah, but you were you were nine in 2000 in 1999 so of course you didn't have a cell phone But do you think my dad had a cell phone in like 96 97?

[00:12:02] So like the fact that no one in that family had a cell phone that was a little shock We didn't have cell phones until the mid-2000s your dad didn't have one. Oh, no no no Lord. No. Oh well

[00:12:12] Yeah, I mean you were the youngest of five that makes a little bit of sense I guess we were that we were very late to the cell phone, but also even if that's the case

[00:12:19] I still contend that if you wake me up and tell me at 7 and it's pitch black outside I will argue against you. I will just go I'm literally Nope you're wrong unless there's an eclipse that I'm not aware of that sprung up on us. It is not

[00:12:41] Yeah, so I'm just I'm not getting up I'm not doing it until you prove to me that it is the time that you say and it just gonna take more than one Clock but word digital clocks affected

[00:12:52] About what with the time we're here in this movie we see all the clocks changing The first one is a digital so what it affect it would it have affected your cell phone

[00:13:01] It would not have cell phones hooked up to a satellite the digital clocks just hooked up to a battery Yeah that you set all right It was like it's 430 in the morning So it is

[00:13:18] So they all go back a bit they all go back to sleep and there's kind of like this weird Francis bacon Francis bacon will call her Franny She is our main character and the next day Franny and her best friend are

[00:13:33] Walking to school and they're confused as to why all the dogs are on the roof Well, they find out Franny finds out that the alarm clocks was not just in her house It was her friend Joe's house and townwide. Yes, and one in town

[00:13:50] Everybody in middlebury and then all the dogs are on the roof And they don't really think much of those two Situations and whether or not they're connected. It's just kind of like oh the dogs are on the roof Classic Watching if I

[00:14:08] Randomly woke up three hours before my alarm because all the clocks in town changed Yeah, and then as I'm walking to school all the dogs are on the roofs. I am going back home

[00:14:19] That's probably enough. I'm not going I'm not continuing to school like yeah, you see one dog on a roof You're like, alright, well, that's weird if they're all on the roofs I think at that point you've got to say we're not we can't do normal

[00:14:31] Yeah, I just the whole neighborhood just apparently everyone in the neighborhood has a dog. That's right And then all the dogs are just on the roofs and I I just wouldn't I'd like you know what? They're all good boys taking a personal good boys and girls and huge

[00:14:48] They are Clifford Clifford the big roof dog So they get to school and Franny notices this guy in the distance staring at her She's kind of like And her best friend looks and does not see anybody and she once again is like No big deal

[00:15:13] We wish we are gonna find out later that this guy doesn't think anyone can see him which now does beg the question Why is he staring at her? Yeah that I did not think of when I was watching the movie. Yeah, why is he?

[00:15:27] Pulling his sunglasses down and staring at her longer than Anyone needs to stare at anyone else. They don't know at that point. She had like seen him

[00:15:36] He still doesn't think he could be seen right, but I think it was more of like a is she looking at me? It's one of those smiling. He's not confused It's a weird bit. Sorry go ahead. Yeah, it is an interesting performance knowing it's we know now. Yes

[00:15:51] So some more stuff Staring at We then see a ton of eggs and whatever number you think it is It's more Quadruple it at least so many eggs drop on this car and it just kind of keeps happening 40 50 dozen

[00:16:10] Yeah, at least you see all the empty egg cartons and it is The random guy from earlier is just kind of keeps lurking He's like he and he goes up on the roof and he sees all the empty

[00:16:24] Egg cartons and was like whoa weird, huh? So he also kind of doesn't know doesn't really know what's that? What's happening here also plot wise weird now that I think of it that he doesn't why else would he be?

[00:16:35] It's not important. Yeah, we'll get there. So after school After school she's Walking home and she sees the guy again and this time she says why you following me?

[00:16:49] Like why are you following me and he's like me and then a school bus drives by and he disappears. Yes, so What's going on there? We don't know we do know We then see a ton of more weird things happening. There's the pool is now jelly jello

[00:17:09] Which really is just jelly if you think about it, no, okay Water is very different waters filled up the buses filled with preserves Yeah, the buses are filled with water there's bees in the principal's office and

[00:17:27] It's not just I forgot about the water in the buses early dingus day Yes Yeah, I have a point to make later when we get to the To talking about it, but like it just the buses. I forgot about that

[00:17:47] So do you want to wait? Do you want me to like you just keep? You For the pranks had I when yeah, yeah, it's already starting to stack how Francis could have possibly done all of these steps

[00:18:07] I mean I was out on the pool being filled with with jam Now I Think that she I'm just gonna have to give it up for this for a while you remember

[00:18:24] When that guy on the today show would do the shout out to the old people with the hundred when you turn on yes Love that. That was great. It was always the highlight of my morning

[00:18:33] Always the highlight. Yeah, it would happen right before I would go to school My mom would always watch the today show in the morning. He didn't have I didn't have a cell phone. It's true and

[00:18:42] So, yeah, I was pretty pretty just about all these old people it's just good to know I can't wait till I'm 100 Yeah, what 100% that's literally my only Desire to live that long. Yeah, that's why you're doing a thing

[00:18:55] I'm doing a thing to live to a hundred. Yeah on this month. There's a lot don't let anyone fool you There's a lot of downsides to living a long time Yeah, but the one upside is you get to be on the today show and a little jam

[00:19:07] Yeah, they got to our broker does it now so who's gonna be doing in 2092 I'll rocker. I'll rocker has daily Carson daily 100% will be doing it. He's gonna be 125. Yeah Anyway, doing some smuckers requests live over there Wakes me up

[00:19:27] So he is on the today show now, oh there you go, did you know that? I did he's like I made that joke. Yeah, and he hosted the voice NBC's request NBC bought Carson daily stock really really high. No, no

[00:19:45] They have a late-night show on did year that was yeah, it was still a thing. Yeah, so they bought high Oh, they bought high but now he's doing Nobody's doing everything. He's like he he's always in my opinion like he wants to be Ryan's

[00:20:00] Ryan's like just a lot of melatonin. He's NBC's Ryan Seacrest. Yeah, how old is Carson daily? Oh 44 the fact that you think he's in it Aaron how old's Carson daily is in this 50s 50. No, he's 50 years old Wow

[00:20:21] He looks great. He looks great. He's halfway to getting on That via email or fax Way to Smuckersville Carson daily You can give us give if anyone knows him Let it let him know that we tip our hat to the brand thought he was 44

[00:20:43] He's always so supportive on the voice too, he always really wants the guy who's on the boy I'm not watch. I stopped watching the voice I still kind of love the voice For Adam Levine. Oh, yeah

[00:21:00] Started watching for Adam Levine and then I really loved the like bromance between him and Blake Shelton. I like Some good banter John legend Dan and Shay chance to rapper in Reba Reba

[00:21:13] And whenever we go whenever somebody picks Reba to if she turns and there's like a if you pick her You get chicken. She gives you a box of Reba chicken and a Reba chicken box What well Gwen Stefani used to give out jackets

[00:21:28] It's become a thing that age each like so chance gives you a chance gives you a chance to wrap her hat Okay, no John legend gives a chicken. What are you gonna do with chicken?

[00:21:41] In the first season she was and I think she gave out hash browns you'd go over to this like hash browns They're cheap scoop it out. I just feel like everybody else. It's swag. Yes That's what makes Reba

[00:21:55] Reba's gonna Reba Reba's gonna Reba and Kelly not be on the same season. I don't Kelly Clarkson Mm-hmm. I don't think she can do it anymore because she's in New York show. Yes. I think she's too busy now

[00:22:08] Well, she's got a day. She was in LA. She did it but when she's now she's in New York She's not the same can't do too much Anyway, are they still friends? So Reba and Kelly? Yeah, I hope so. Why wouldn't they be?

[00:22:20] Well Kelly divorced Reba son, so I just know that worked out oh I think she had a divorce. Yeah, I didn't know that that's who she'd married either

[00:22:31] Interesting, so I just wonder I mean they were really good friends. I wonder how that well, I'm team Kelly. Oh for sure And so I was tough. I mean, I don't I mean maybe in that in that divorce Divorce yeah Right

[00:22:48] Okay, I can't I came out hard like your team Kelly no, I just meant in the divorce McIntyre National Treasure, I love Reba. Yeah, okay Reba Reba Reba Reba Kelly If you want to come on do you come to sentence and break down a decal Kelly? Hey bud

[00:23:02] We early on still in this movie. Yes. Sorry. Sorry. So that night really took us for a turn there So Francis Franny Francis Bacon who can be who's the only one that can see the guy?

[00:23:16] She's not the only one that can see the things everybody can see the things and so I do think yeah the pranks I do think that's worth noting. That's not just everything not everything's in her mind

[00:23:25] It's just I also question like somebody dives into the pool of jello You should be able to see that. No, you should be able to see it. You should be able to see it If your pool

[00:23:39] If you can't tell the difference between your pool and jello, that's right Then you should probably redo your pool. Do we know anyone with a pool? We could try this out with this summer. Mmm, fill it with jello if you want to pay to

[00:23:53] Reline the pool then we can do it. How much are you talking? We just got an Amex card. No not the business you this personally No, this sounds like the you personal business expense of all time

[00:24:07] You fill your pool with jello is the most business that's a business venture You personally have to repay it. It probably cost you five to eight grand You you not you thinking that this isn't a business thing is Shouting my kids time to swim. They're gonna love

[00:24:23] We're watching a movie no watch the movie with the jello figure it out Did you say figured out or we could break into the why and do it in their pool? Yeah, that sounds better. Yeah like a crime, but I'm in yeah

[00:24:35] Well, if we want to be more authentic to that's a lot more jelly. It's a lot more jealous a lot more jello So that night everyone's asleep and we see this person like kind of like limping around

[00:24:45] Hands with long nails and creepy creepy hands and is planting plants and you're like, oh, that's nice Just a yeah a nighttime Nighttime gardener. Yeah, you say gardener gardening God now I'm a god now

[00:25:06] And the next day she meets her best friend outside and we see that the plants spell Joe Joe loves Bert and Bert is Francis Bacon's brother and Joe had just told Franny that Or at least Franny's like you have a crush on and you're like, no, I don't

[00:25:21] Don't tell anybody don't tell anybody so she's mad now and we're never gonna see her again So she's mad and she's like, oh, I'm gonna go to bed. I'm gonna go to bed. I'm gonna go to bed

[00:25:31] I'm gonna go to bed. I'm gonna go to bed. I'm gonna go to bed. I'm gonna go to bed She's mad now and we're never gonna see we don't we don't see her again

[00:25:38] I think we see her once very at the near the end, but basically you're right. Maybe we don't She's very bad She's about 80 minutes worth of mad and so then she gets to school and everybody is just Stationary outside and it is one of the creepier things

[00:25:57] It's like do you remember the movie smile Dan? I do just kind of see some people like they would see people and they'd just be smiling through a crowd It's kind of like creepy like that. Everyone's just stationary

[00:26:08] Like what the heck and then the bell rings and everyone again, it's like Zack Morris called timeout. Yeah, I Don't know the boogeyman was one everything else If the boogeyman can control time like that That's that's control my like that

[00:26:23] He his his thing is he can control like objects like he can make a pool full of jello He can do all of these things that involve objects, but this is causing a group of P. This is mind control

[00:26:34] Well, I think he just stop you think you stop time. I don't think he's in their minds I think he stopped time and so when the bell rings interesting, okay, so that would go back to

[00:26:45] Actually cause time to speed up there he didn't he just sped up the digital. Yeah. Yeah The boogeyman we see like orders request live physically planting the flowers like we see yeah all of that

[00:26:57] So am I to imagine that the boogeyman took over a kitchen somewhere and was just slaving away making some jello Yeah, like how did I have so many questions? I'm so sorry. I can Fill it up the buses with water you get a there's a bus airtight. Yeah

[00:27:19] Yeah, how much of what the boogeyman is doing its magic versus correct Just you would think of the book like snap his fingers and he's Spoiler later. He's on the roof putting up Christmas. That's right. Yeah, like he does have to do the things, right?

[00:27:34] Yes, but then there is some magic. He loves a good prank. He does loves a good prank. He does cause everyone. Well, yeah Maybe the boogeyman Convinced like his head. Hey, let's got everybody involved in the stationary bit like hey guys, let's all do this thing

[00:27:50] You guys want to do a thing and freeze? It's a freeze boy, I don't know is a good these are good questions Boogie man, if you could come on the pod, but we have some question

[00:28:02] All of the lockers have the letter B spray-painted on them. Is it for bacon? Is it for boogie who can say? except for But at the time we don't the fact that Francis

[00:28:18] Bacon's locker is the only one without the B on it. Well people are a little like people are thinking that it's her So she goes in there like she's doing all these pranks. She's a big prank or she's a prank. Yes, she goes

[00:28:29] She's at lunches. She sees the guy lurking again. So she goes to talk to him and this time he doesn't disappear He doesn't run away. He says his name is Larry Houdini and he

[00:28:38] knows who has been doing all this stuff the boogeyman the boogie man's been doing all this stuff and She's like why Can I only I see you what what is happening? She's like, hey everybody Larry Houdini and no one everyone's just kind of laughs

[00:28:53] I don't look more crazy also to note you may have said this but she is an eighth grader in ninth grade That's what she's trying to fit in already. She's trying it's all right for her

[00:29:02] Anyway, they already think she's weird and then now they think she's weirder, right? Yes Yeah, because she's pranking everyone and she's just shouting to herself. Yes. Yes. So the school begins to question her Because people are beginning to think that she's the pranker and she tells them that

[00:29:19] Larry Houdini did it. It's Larry Houdini Larry who done it. It's Houdini and No one believes her obviously because Larry Houdini doesn't go to school here. We got no record of this Houdini but the The school therapist what is guidance counselor has a working theory apparently

[00:29:40] Of Francis Bacon's youngest brother Had needed a bone marrow transplant Correct. Okay Got me you You know, I struggle You know, I struggle with when I make a mistake and I correct it in my mind then I'm constantly yeah

[00:30:03] Yeah, it's a bone marrow transfer transfer is what I thought When he code switches when he talks from his head to real English Yeah, man in my head it's it's a better joke than it's getting credit for So people in brands brain

[00:30:23] This is what we want to say In my brain swatch it you see the episode of Spongebob where they go inside his brain and that is his brain. Yeah Yeah Yeah, no, of course big Spongebob Squarepants guy Pizza is the pizza for you and me crusty

[00:30:46] So there's a point after that where the guidance counselor puts up a cool bag on Francis's head Oh, I'm sorry. I was getting to the working Is yes and that her brother her older brother birds to our episodes Yeah, Bert's was able to give the bone marrow

[00:31:05] so the theory was that Francis had given the bone marrow to her younger brother and now she was acting out because She was forced to do this thing But then it turns out that it wasn't Francis no, she couldn't give the bone marrow she wasn't a match

[00:31:23] It's a match and then she lays down on the bit on the the church pew out there With it with a with an ice pack on her head and has what I can only describe is the creepiest scene in DCOM history

[00:31:34] That happens after that what happens then the book we see a hand Freddy Krueger style hand long fingernails Coming up over the edge of the the pew and reaching down over her face It is terrifying. There's like some fog machines It is terrifying She wakes up she screams

[00:31:58] It's terrifying like things are happening Brian, right? so she comes home and at this point her youngest brother comes in and asked about whether or not the boogeyman is real and She's like why are you asking? It was like oh, so Larry Houdini at the park

[00:32:15] You know told us that the boogie man is real and so she goes to the park and sure enough Larry Houdini's at the park Shooting hoops basketballs his favorite sport. He likes the way they dribble up and down the court. It's favorite plays the alley-oop

[00:32:27] He likes to pick and roll. He likes to give and go and so She goes to the park. He's there and he explains that he's an imaginary friends and That kids can see him kids can see everything and so every kid best to my knowledge

[00:32:43] That's the knowledge can see Larry Houdini and can they see every imaginary friend? Not important all the specifics here, but they go to the library and he begins to prove that Every that kids can see him. He's doing faith of a character X. He's doing somersaults on

[00:33:03] My god They are glued If this was a thing in 99 where you drop your kid off at a library You'd put them at a table with a TV that says story time is a max of six and somebody somebody

[00:33:20] Has recorded a video of them reading a story so that no one has to my library had story time growing up Yes, and my parents also stayed like a dropout a day here no So that was just I didn't know what was going on 99 in Middleburg

[00:33:41] But uh, yeah, apparently they don't have cell phones and they're unattended in front of a TV in the library. Yes He grabs a book about the boogeyman and It's gonna try to figure out how to make this boogeyman go away. Yes, that's the whole thing here

[00:33:59] So they go back to her house and it becomes clear that Her brother can now no longer see Larry Houdini and this really upsets Larry Yeah, because turns out Larry was Darwin's imaginary friend. Yes, and so he's upset because

[00:34:15] She basically told him that he has to grow up or something like it's something like that. Yeah. Yeah, and so This really upsets Larry. And so that night Larry is watching Darwin as he sleeps and And he hears the boogeyman on the roof arose such a clatter and

[00:34:35] He sprung from his bed to see what was the matter? Oh my god We're having a good time sir, I'm a great time. It's a rose such a cloud and so Larry goes outside Francis also wakes up and comes out to help

[00:34:51] Here we go boogeyman is up on the roof and He's trying to put up some Christmas lights putting up Christmas lights as you do. He's a he's a pranker

[00:34:59] But like a holly jolly fellow. Yes, it's a reverse. Holly jolly prankster. It's a reverse Grinch to reverse Grinch situation and Larry gets up on the roof and gets scared of the boogeyman after finding out that he is now also gonna become a boogeyman mm-hmm and

[00:35:17] That's that causes starting to see some purple eyes Yes things here and there and he Begins to fall off the roof the boogeyman turns on the Christmas lights which causes the rest of the town's lights to fall to not

[00:35:27] Fall off to turn off and which becomes newsworthy in the next day. There was one house in town breaks the glass Yes, yeah The ladder breaks the glass They think that Francis has done all this and she cray

[00:35:42] Yeah, everyone in town thinks that Francis caused a citywide blackout by decorating for Christmas and whatever month this in October Which could happen it should be against the law Yeah So Larry shows up the next day you heard it here first brand agrees

[00:36:04] Decorate in October show for show So Larry shows up the next day and tells Francis that they need to read more of the book and They need to create some boogie goo

[00:36:18] And while this is happening Franny's dad played by the venerable Stephen Toblowski wants to have the guidance counselor over for dinner I think that's what would solve this is if you have the the guidance counselor over for dinner

[00:36:30] Yeah, get to the bottom of this we couldn't do that in an office But if we cook him a meal here, I think we're gonna solve a lot of problems. So Darwin's in there making the boogie goo she walks in and she's Larry

[00:36:44] Childs yeah, cuz Larry's see Larry anymore Larry's very into book you go and she's like that's weird. Like why are you like sucking sucking on chili dog sucking on Shirley dog? Sucking on a chili dog

[00:36:58] Yeah, and if you have not seen this movie, this is a scene in which I almost threw up It is a bubbling sound effect. I think is what puts it over the top. Yes

[00:37:10] Cuz I was thinking about this last night as I went home and was just continuing to process this movie There is a scene in can of worms where if you turn the sound off

[00:37:18] I still want to throw up but if I turned the sound off during this scene, I would have been fine. Yeah Like I just I didn't like it it was tough so Also think ring headphones didn't know yeah, it was right there in the old ear canal

[00:37:35] So she begins she reads that one somebody stops Believing in an imaginary friend too soon That person that imaginary friend will become a boogeyman. There are multiple boogie. Yeah, and so she's now like oh he's eating the Boogie goo. He's turning. Yeah, he's turning into Yes, so Darwin

[00:37:59] Steps on some boogie goo that was on the ground and it is now on his shoe. He goes to his room he's sitting on his bed feet dangled over he's in Francis's room, yes, and

[00:38:11] The boogie man is in his room and kicks him out of his room. So yes, mr. Francis's room his The boogie like you do we see the boogie man's hand grab his foot. Yep, and he is now

[00:38:23] Pulled see a sucker. He's been boogie. He's been boogie. Yeah, so Larry and Franny now go into the room. They see that his shoe has been left behind Correct her and Nicholas Cage and so she

[00:38:45] Looks under the bed. I know we've been told we'd say not to but what can you do and She sees a portal of sorts that is Open. Hmm. So she goes through Larry is also coming with and he has with him a machine that's

[00:39:05] Zaps zaps them real good Kind of foggy on the machine. Yeah to be honest. Yes Backpack, it's a whole it's a good. It's a going happening I think they were going for like

[00:39:17] Cables that you're supposed to attach to the boogie man and it's really dangerous but also for kids at the same time I like it's a lot. I think they were going for like a Ghostbusters thing

[00:39:26] Sure, but I don't know. Anyway, we go into boogie town and it is you're under the bed. And so Every everything that you would see kind of under a bed like all those random things are massive

[00:39:40] Toy cars huge and a sandwich huge. It's like honey. I shrunk the kids but on a cheaper budget so they're trying to Larry and Franny are trying to track down

[00:39:54] Where Darwin is and bogey, of course, and so they keep it they're going they're going they're going there fine boogie Darwin is in a sack. Yep He's in a sack. What's funny about he's in a sack. It's a sheet sack. It's a she's in a sack

[00:40:09] It's a sock Giant socks. Yes a giant sock sack. And so They have to miss oxen. Yes, Kevin the sock sack wasn't me and so Larry goes to shoot

[00:40:23] boogie with the bazooka and before we get too much further we should we should bring up that the boogie man is a Victorian Man who speaks in rhyming couplets? Yes It's crazy that we've gone what three hours into this pod and we've not we've not covered that yet

[00:40:43] Yes for a guy that has lost his way when it comes to hygiene Most everything else. He still has his rhyming couple and I would just say don't ask Yes, a classic don't ask don't tell situation when it comes to the rhyming

[00:40:56] We don't need to get into it. Um Have you heard about the boogie man real quick guys? I have actually heard a rumor that God is bigger than the what but what about Godzilla? He's bigger than Godzilla

[00:41:08] No, the other various monsters that you'll find on TV. Yep. No way God is bigger than the boogie man No, I don't believe you. Well, he's watching out for you and me cool

[00:41:19] So he goes to zap him with the zap gun and it's not like all the monsters on TV We should be playing decom descendants bingo Did we bring a video? VeggieTales podcast is gonna slap

[00:41:37] I don't want any I don't know if I want any part of that podcast. I think veggie tails is vastly I'd like a cheeseburger But we're closed now we open tomorrow Said I am extremely Impressed

[00:42:24] Remember four hours ago and Dan said he didn't want to be part of a listen Because I sing along doesn't mean I like it. I If you play a song I will sing along if I know the words if I don't why do you know that song?

[00:42:41] The early silly songs were played in youth group. So like when I was in high school hairbrush cheeseburger Nope Hairbrush cheeseburger, there's one other big one water buffalo Though Everyone's got a water Those three

[00:43:09] Those three are are excellent right they slap and I think they're terrible you do not think cheeseburgers terrible I do I Do think it's terrible. Well, there's a whole have you heard but like what everyone now thinks the cheeseburger songs about no

[00:43:22] I do think it's weird that Phil Fisher and his gang decided to do a Mexican ish voice in that song. I think that is weird. It's a weird choice Why why listen man? We're all growing. We're all growing. We're all growing

[00:43:39] I think Phil Fisher would admit that but I got screwed out of his veggie tails money And we hate that for Phil, but I just veggie tails in general. I don't like Yeah, I know every there are theories that it's like virginity Oh what

[00:43:56] But what how you have to wait You have to wait till tomorrow at 10 a.m Remember this one this is not one of like Think that's a stretch What's going to Denny's for the for the Grand Slam? What's that? Is that I think it's non sexual pleasure

[00:44:17] It's all it's all really in the weeds if the burgers virginity Saying I don't think it holds up It's all outside the pants stuff It's a yeah, it's it's outside the pants stuff. Yeah, man It's Denny's a Denny's Grand Slam is your pants pants on? Whole

[00:44:41] One one weirdo on reddit doesn't make it so well the first the first the first comments From professional squid, which I'm here for this is on the other hand He does eventually settle for a cheap breakfast at Denny's make of that what you will Is Denny's a hooker?

[00:45:01] Is Denny's a prostitute That's in the hard questions. It might as well be So he tries to Because the extension cord back in the room has come unplugged and at this point Larry turns

[00:45:21] Left real every I know that when Larry turns full boogie Larry turns full boogie. Yes Transformation complete transformation complete and we hate that yes, and so They're trying Franny is trying to rescue Darwin now all by herself

[00:45:38] Wow untie that socks while we have a just a rhyme-off between the two boogies Yeah, and he's not doing so well in the rhyme-off. He is not Franny Remembers something about her a better Peter Pan or something

[00:45:55] Boogie man keeps calling her Franny. Yes, and only one person in her entire life has ever called her Franny and so first she has Darwin begin to clap and that causes

[00:46:09] Larry boogie to turn back into Larry who do try so at story time they were reading Peter. That's right That's what it was and when Tinker Bell When Tinker Bell is I listen, I'm still trying to process how Denny's is dry

[00:46:23] I don't like it's so hard for me to do that While we're doing this I'm getting through it. Moons over Miami and my pants Moons over Miami new meeting for sure

[00:46:47] You know looking back on it. It's probably for the best that I did not make a drink for this episode But yeah, so in Peter Pan when Tinker Bell is dying You have to clap to prove that you believe in fairies and Tinker Bell comes back to life

[00:47:04] So in order to get Larry to reverse the boogeyman process He needs his imaginary friend to say that he still believes in him But the boogeyman has grabbed Darwin and has a hand over his mouth so he can't speak

[00:47:18] So Franny remembers the Tinker Bell thing and it's like Darwin Darwin's in the sock sack going and that causes Larry Houdini His boogeyman shell explodes So now Larry Houdini is trying to like keep boogie at bay some live and Franny cuz she's smart is doing

[00:47:45] Science battery under the bed. She is taking a paperclip and Yeah, and it's doing connecting the plug Yes, and It it works. Yep And causes when you zap Eyes, I'm just like that it reverts back and at this point Franny has figured out who

[00:48:13] The book is boogeyman is it is her old imaginary friend who she stopped believing in That's right. We know and Darwin got sick and It is all about You know growing up too soon and you know that Zoe is an uppity a be British Yes

[00:48:35] preachers the the Vic I will just say the Vic the war into the breachers the boogeyman reverts back to a uppity up be woman and it is Zoe does correct us. Yes that she is not a boogie man. She's a

[00:48:55] Time in so many ways 99 how dare you gender that boogie man? And that's that's something you should take away from this. We should Yes still don't look under the bed, but just know that when you do

[00:49:08] Boogie them maybe the person what they would like to be called. Yes, and so The they get out from under the bed and it's all good. It's all happy and then we find out that

[00:49:23] The they are gonna leave so what happens is the boogie they come out from under the bed and then the parents like hey all Those pranks that were happening here are happening in Centerville, yes so

[00:49:38] Clearly, it's a wandering troop of pranksters Franny. You're off the hook. That's right. Yeah. Yeah, they just they're out of town Just in and out just like yeah, whereas the two imaginary friends like we got to go stop more boogiemen

[00:49:48] Yeah, apparently it's a boogie man situation in Centerville. We're gonna know that you found your childhood Yeah, childhood is now we're now doosan because well, here's the thing I'm gonna form a boogieman posse and go dude boogieman posse. I did see them live

[00:50:03] Oh your boogie your your imaginary friend at some point you stop Being able to see them After your little brother's imaginary friend kisses you okay, so this movie ends she is saying goodbye to

[00:50:19] Her imaginary friend Zoe to have her imaginary friend back and so he's like happy to be here I am leaving I am the only thing me again. He's like hold on one second, baby girl and Larry Larry kisses Fran yeah, we are in a romantic way

[00:50:39] There's a full it there is a walk up look into your eyes kiss kiss and then they They disappear and into the sunset and still wondering about why Darwin and Franny are talking they're falling asleep, and we see the boogie people watching them as they sleep

[00:51:00] And not just watching them know the boogie people are in bed With them yeah Couldn't leave it at the kiss doesn't end super strong down on But that is don't look at the bed. We'll be right back. We'll break this down a little bit more here on DCOM

[00:51:18] descendants I Mean to this on your commute your commute is too long too long you have you drive too long Get a new Jerry get a new job, buddy get a new job It's time for overtime so we talk about how this movie aged over time

[00:51:40] I do have some reviews from letterboxd if you would like them Robin gave this movie three and a half stars For some reason like literally no possible reason I can think of the main character was named Francis Bacon I Need to know the backstory is scientists all the

[00:51:59] scientists max says Five four stars. I want a remake with Lil Nas X's Larry Not bad Hannah says three and a half stars Everybody you can't make a movie with only Dutch tilts don't look under the bed try and stop me

[00:52:18] There are a lot of tilts in this movie. Yes a plethora Lisa says two and a half stars I miss when D comes were unhinged gone are the stories about not abandoning imaginary friends lest they manifest into demonic spirit and eat your little brother who's

[00:52:35] Who's recently in remission from childhood cancer? Following your dreams and whatever the Sister Yes Layla says five stars the B in LGBTQ plus stands for boogie man. That's so great Carrie says three stars. How do we add emotional? Resonance to our boogeyman film. I don't know

[00:53:02] bone-marrow transfusion blotcher Five stars from Emily who says more horror films should have Never mind that one doesn't make any sense breakdancing. Is there breakdancing in this movie? Okay That that one cuz I don't remember the breakdance, okay and What three stars?

[00:53:27] Possibly one of the most unnecessary kisses and D. Yeah, yeah Yeah, but I'm not even mad about it because no there's one more unnecessary Because no, this is what they say no character in cinematic history has ever oozed more charisma than Larry Houdini

[00:53:46] It's time to see what we thought of this movie and how it aged over time Aaron you and I we've never seen it before So it's this is a fresh a fresh way for all of us

[00:53:57] Just looking at it back now. We're here. We are 99 this movie came out. What do you think about this movie? Yeah, I have I have so many thoughts I

[00:54:09] Went out to dinner with some friends last night and if you think that I made them all discuss this movie with me You're right. I did Someone that haven't seen it seen it. Yes

[00:54:21] Yeah, I was like hey have you guys ever seen to look under the bed and Immediate reaction. So it's like great. Let's talk about that kiss Yeah, so let's start there cuz where else there's just so many places to start but the kiss I

[00:54:36] Didn't love that this man is like stalking her in the beginning movie and she is thrilled she's like Big into it like she's trying to explain when they're blaming her for the prank. She's like no, it's Larry. He's this guy He's been following me No, that's not

[00:54:53] Listen we talked about this last week with genius a you don't owe men your time and be if they're stalking you It's not romantic. It's not romantic Correct. That's not a sign of no. No, no kink shame her Aaron

[00:55:10] Very into Larry Houdini who stalks her. I think that's a different Thing if she was she was 22 or 23 brand less maybe a better argument. That's fair 13 13 is that gonna stop Larry Houdini from kissing her? No

[00:55:28] Now in reading about the movie, I found out that they almost did stop the kiss But not because it was weird but you know or stalking or the fact that

[00:55:40] It's not romantic in any way. We don't need a kiss. They almost didn't have the kiss because they're an interracial couple So let's again not aging well over time in the last 24 hours or in the last Yeah

[00:56:00] For the fact that they kept the interracial kiss in for in a 1999 children's movie, but also like I don't think we needed It's a weird line to be on Yeah, so there's just I mean the fact that everyone thinks this 13 year old girl is doing all these pranks

[00:56:18] How someone explained it to me there's there's no logic there at all The parents are mad that she somehow caused a citywide blackout But not mad that she was up on the roof all night alone unsupervised hanging Christmas lights like there's just I

[00:56:34] Have some questions about the parents and their parenting ability Every imaginary friend turns into a boogeyman if you stop believing but this is the first case of pranks that we've

[00:56:44] There's a lot plot-wise that doesn't hold up. I mean it's true about all of these, but I think yeah I think that there is a really great plot in here somewhere about You know her coming to deal with her brother's cancer situation

[00:57:00] Even keep in like my boogeyman like, you know keeping like that personal like here's my boogeyman I Pushed him her away them away too soon And now I need to refine my childhood

[00:57:11] But then at the end when it becomes a boogeyman posse and every boogeyman in the world is doing pranks Like I don't know it just doing pranks. I think there was a really good plot here I think that there was a really good plot here

[00:57:24] I think that there was a really good plot here It just doing pranks, I think there was a really good plot here and We didn't get it so I Know I like this movie, but also didn't like this movie fair

[00:57:39] They're Brando at this movies best is as good as D comms can be. There's a lot of Really really good filmmaking choices really cool a lot of Interesting like practical stuff and then It just gets bogged down. There's it's doing a lot of things here

[00:58:03] Too many too many things in fact, but I do agree. I think the overarching lesson of Don't grow up too fast is a is a good lesson I don't know if I'm a kid and I'm watching this movie one if I'm ever gonna be able to sleep again

[00:58:18] It's a very like scary movie at times, but too. I don't know if I'm Getting that lesson. I think it gets lost in the Oakers a little bit there and so There's a there's a lot to like about this movie

[00:58:33] And there's also a lot to scratch your head at and be like why why did we decide to do this and so? overall good But and but very scared like Surprised that this was on the Disney Channel because it's not like Halloween town where

[00:58:50] It's all it's so it's also goofy like you see that the scary stuff But it's like so over-the-top and goofy that it's like not scary There's like to do what Dan brought up earlier that scene where she's laying down in the hand like it is scary stuff

[00:59:04] We don't even talk about all the times where they're like when she's sleeping in her room, and she has like dolls on shelves To be like some conjuring stuff Yeah and that's seen where all the kids are stationary is so unsettling like as a

[00:59:20] As a kid I would have just been like really creeped out by it So the thing is like and I don't mind scary when I feel like there is a point to it By the end of this movie Like the boogeyman like he wasn't trying to hurt Franny

[00:59:35] No, why did he capture like there is Darwin? There's just like there is so much that like what was his plan there it's like they were trying to make a movie about like Your childhood and letting go of your childhood too soon

[00:59:50] and then they hired a horror director and the movie just took on a different turn and was the was the The whole thing is I will capture Darwin Franny will come in here, and then I'll just have Franny forever was that

[01:00:04] Because at one point the boogeyman does try to throw Darwin off the cliff yeah, what does that do does that wake him up? Does that does that kill him? Wake me up in time Yeah, I'm sorry. I'm just back. Yes. I have a lot of questions about

[01:00:20] It just tried to do so much try to do something Dan. Oh um I Think this movie at its best is the best D. Com the problem is is its best is about 45 minutes of movie When they it weirdly enough the scene where they're

[01:00:37] Having to remember their childhood and clapping and all that that scene worked really well for me The effectiveness of the horror in this movie works really well for me some of how it shot works really really well for me has

[01:00:48] a cinematic quality to it, but as both of you guys have pointed out as you Go further and further into this movie It doesn't hold up very similar to Smart house the other movie that is terrifying by the end that also doesn't hold up

[01:01:05] But you guys with that one don't ask questions you just go in smart house scary about that movie Oh that movies terrifying that movie at the end of the day is scarier than this movie Time out this movie is a visually scarier than smart house, but the

[01:01:22] Ramifications of the plots this movie the guys pranking you yes, it's scary, but he's just a prankster smart house is Terrifying for a number of reasons, but it's very similar to me in a lot of ways because at its best

[01:01:35] It works really well at its worst. It's a mess of a movie that Doesn't hold up under the foundation. It's created and so I had a hard time ranking it at a hard time ranking it But I like a lot of it a lot of it

[01:01:49] I really really enjoyed so there's that for what it's worth I will also just two things that one Eric tie Hodges crushed in this yes so hard Was great Young and to be that confident like I'm gonna go on this set

[01:02:06] I'm going to and I'm gonna be on go hard the whole time great. Yeah, yeah to the whole Something I just thought about like the whole thing is like don't look at the boogeyman right like put the covers over the

[01:02:20] You're in bed, and you have the covers over your head the boogeyman can't touch you Yes, which I stand by those rules to the okay fair, but like poor poor Poor Darwin sleep with a blanket or Darwin was just hanging out, and he didn't even get a chance

[01:02:34] He just took him right under by his foot. It's brutal. It's brutal up there Don't don't don't do the feet down look under the bed Yeah, I do wish that like

[01:02:44] Almost like Disney had made two separate movies like I would be here for an actual horror movie with the boogeyman But maybe don't tie that up with coming to terms with like childhood kids No, I didn't mind the bone marrow subplot of this movie

[01:03:01] My was the the stalking romance part and the the lack of coherent Plot of how many boogeyman are there however this the first we heard of it the pranks like why is he pranking like?

[01:03:17] Some of the motivations of the boogeyman didn't make sense to me and the stalking was yeah No, I want a movie where the boogeyman is like the bad guy very Redemption we defeat the boogeyman at the end case closed

[01:03:28] Yeah, and then maybe a movie about childhood cancer where there's a redemption arc Yeah, this boogeyman being created because you lost your childhood essence is a great idea. It's a great idea for a movie

[01:03:38] But it gets the waters get muddied, that's right. It's time to make the list I Only have 11 yeah, it's 11. I was wrong. Okay. I counted again. I went a little nutty here All right, well Top 10 top 10 one goes away I think it's clear. That's one. Yep I think

[01:04:04] One listening clear Aaron, do you have it? Do you have your list made? Cuz I can go I have no I have it. I don't love it. I don't love mine either Cuz right now my list is still like

[01:04:19] The order in which I would rather watch these movies and not necessarily what I think is a better movie does that make sense? Yep, yeah, I think with these a lot of mine

[01:04:30] The same on that but that's the that's the age-old like that's the yeah, I mean it's like I Think there is a really good movie here But it's not my number one DCOM because it's I'm not gonna choose to watch this over smart house So

[01:04:46] Where are we we have 11? Yeah all but one. Okay, so for me 10 is 13 years What do you Stop you're wrong Number nine under wraps eight can of worms Then we got brink Genius seven brink at seven brand don't look under the bed at five
