[00:00:03] This is a Bramble Jam Podcast.

[00:00:44] What are you asking me? It was exporting. In professional wrestling, WWE, wrestling if you will. Wrestling, yes. They 1-2-3 ring the bell. They 1-2-3 ring the bell. I don't know what they're doing in this type of wrestling. Hi everybody, welcome. We're talking going to the mat today. We're very excited about that. Also very excited about all of the reviews that have come in. We got a new one. We got a new one. From Allison at 2848. Yes, finally. Five stars. I'm the same age as Brandon Aaron, but I never watched much Disney Channel. I'm a youngster.

[00:01:14] I've still been loving the pod and can't wait to get more movies I've actually seen. Motocross was a 10 of 10. Thanks for not leading me astray. Wow. Great review. Great review, Allison. Great review. Fascinating life story. Someone who is our age, didn't watch DCOM, still listens to our show, and is now watching the movies. To be fair, when these movies started, I was still in high school living at home, but I didn't have the Disney Channel. Loser. I know, right? Dork.

[00:01:44] Such a loser. Sorry, sorry I even brought it up. I'm not. I had fun. Yeah. I had fun with it. You know what else I had fun with? This poop right here. Oh my god. It's time for Delish. Show everybody this. Show everybody this big mud pie. Here it is. I don't know. It's a mud cake. Okay, what do we got going on today? We're talking going to the mat. It's Delish. D is for Delish. Yeah, Delish. We're talking going to the mat. Thank you, Darren. You're welcome. We're talking going to the mat. We're talking a wrestling movie. We're talking about something.

[00:02:13] If I was going to watch this movie and I wanted to enjoy something, a food, a beverage, what should I do? What's a good tie in? A theme? Um, so I was talking with my good buddy, Bran, about the Delish segment for this movie. And Bran said, it's a wrestling movie. Just make a protein shake. That is what I said. That's true. And I said, cool. I'm going to take the idea of a protein and then find a dessert.

[00:02:37] Um, so there is a whole like website, which I can't remember, but it's the carnival diet. I know. It is poop desserts.com. It's not. It is called the big man's world. But it's okay. What you do in your own time. Aaron, I'm sure you just found that. I ran across the big man's world.com. I'm sure you don't have it as your homepage. I don't. Bookmarked at least. I had just Googled protein desserts and popped up.

[00:03:07] It's a whole page of like, it's got ice cream, brownies, cookies. It's a big man's world. Apparently. Apparently only men need protein. Big protein, big boys. That's right. Um, but I found this mug cake and our tie in here is protein for wrestling. Yeah. Obviously. Cause they're doing that. But there's a scene where his mom is making a cake. Oh, well there you go. I love it. And there she's making this cake and he's, you know, talking about his upcoming wrestling match and they did this whole bit with like the frosting. And I thought that was cute. So of all the protein desserts, we got a cake. This is a mug cake.

[00:03:37] You can make it in the microwave. Okay. Wow. So what is it? What's in it? Um, so it is a chocolate protein powder, some cocoa powder. You're supposed to use coconut flour, but hot Publix did me dirty, did not have coconut flour. Um, so we have almond flour. It's like a brownie. Yeah. And then, uh, some sugar, milk, egg, um, and some M&Ms. All right, here we go. And some M&Ms. Yeah. Yeah. Not bad.

[00:04:06] I ain't upset about that. Mm-mm. Major game, babe. You all right? Shout out to all the big boys. Yeah. It's a big man's world. So physically not the most like appealing dessert, but minimal ingredients and it takes less than two minutes in the microwave. You whip that sucker up in a bowl and you just put it in the microwave and bada bing? Yeah. How about that? It's like that. Mm-hmm. There you go. So. Say what you will about the big boys. Big man. Big man.

[00:04:35] Say what you will about the big man. That's all I'm going to say. Um, so yeah, not bad. I did, I did test, test run this first to make sure that it wouldn't blow up in my face in the microwave. It didn't blow up at all. No. How about that? That's wonderful. You know what else is wonderful? A break? Break. We're going to take a break. We're going to come back. It's finally time everybody. Go on to the mat. Andy Lawrence, he's back. D-Com Descendants. D-Com Descendants. Come on, man. Give us a chance. On? D-Com Descendants. Welcome back to.

[00:05:05] Looks like he doesn't. Welcome back to. This is just an advertisement for donuts for dudes. Welcome back to. D-Com Descendants. Descendants. There it is. You scroll on the big boys website? No, I wasn't. I just was on the social media and there was. And you just get ads for the big boys. No, it was just. Ads for donuts for dudes. The school where we taught is doing a thing where dads come and eat donuts with the students. Oh, that type of dudes. I thought it was like a boy. Yeah.

[00:05:35] For big boys. I'm talking going to the mat, everybody. I'm talking going to the mat. It's big man's world. Going to the mats was, of course, I'm sure, I actually don't have this confirmation, takes place in Salt Lake City. I would imagine it was also filmed in Salt Lake because it's a D-Com and that's what they do. Yeah. Um, we have, uh, written by Chris Nolan. Yeah. And Lori Nolan. There's a lot of time jumps in this movie. It's crazy. Yeah. Also Steve Bloom had a hand at it. Oh.

[00:06:05] And, uh, Stu, Stu Krieger. Stu Krieger. Yeah. Stu Krieger sounds familiar. Like we've heard that name before. I'm going to look it up back to you, Brandon. Uh, Stuart Gillard is a director. He's done a handful of these and it is starring one Andy Lawrence. He's back. Everybody. Alessandra Torrasani. Yeah, you got it. Cleo Thomas, uh, from holes fame. That's right. Uh, played zero and holes. And of course, he played fly. Very different, very different character.

[00:06:34] And, uh, Wayne Brady is also in the movie, uh, for a moment or two. Stu Krieger, writer of gotta kick it up. Writer of the poof point. Writer of Xenon the Z equal. Writer of Phantom of the Megaplex. Writer of Smart House. Writer of Xenon Girl of the 21st Century. Writer of the Rugrats movie. Writer of Goosebumps Attack of the Mutants. Goosebumps Escape from Horrorland. Writer of Freaky Friday, 1995. Uh, he's written a lot of your childhood. I love that. Yeah. I, I, I know. Okay, great.

[00:07:04] So I also saw that Christopher Brady is the music composer. And I was like, I wonder if he's really the way Brady does not look like it. Um, but there you go. What do you mean by that? He's white. Um, and, uh, who's the guy you really like? What's his name? Billy Aaron Brown. That's very important. Billy Aaron Brown from Mary Kate Ashley fame. Who pre this episode, I would have told you was in almost every movie I watched as a teen and turns out he was in like three. So. Nada.

[00:07:34] There we go. Shall we die then? Billy, Billy, if you're listening, um, you had a huge influence on my childhood and I'm sorry that I. Shout out to Billy. Shout out Billy. Can you spell DCOM without C for com chat? That's right. Go ahead. I interrupted. And for Billy. And for Billy. C for Billy. ABC always be Billy. Always be Billy. Always be Billy. Um, so the movie kicks off in a really. That's what we found on bigman.com. The movie kicks off in a really weird way. But big man is Billy. Billy.

[00:08:04] That's what they call me. Big man Billy. Now thinking about the way that this movie began, it's just weird to me. Yeah. So it takes place at this big, like concert hall with a pipe organ. Go ahead. I do want to be clear. He says later in the movie and I didn't bring it up cause we got sidetracked. He says that that was Rockefeller center. He goes, the night before I left. What? We played Rockefeller center. No, that's what he said. I think he was kidding. He said to be, he said it dead serious. No.

[00:08:33] Well, I know we already took it to the tape cause that was the Kingsbury auditorium with some columns. That was not Rockefeller center, but he's supposed to be in New York city clearly isn't go ahead. That's exactly right. That's what we're trying to say. Anyway, he's in New York city. The band is just crushing it. Pipe organ horns. He's drumming and he's phenomenal. He's, he's rocking his glasses and he's having a good time. And everybody's like, yeah, go Jace. We love Jace.

[00:09:00] He does live in New York city or so they say, but he is moving to Utah and the movie does some things early on that Dan didn't know anything about this movie going into it. And Dan was unsure what was going on, but you, you knew things were happening and they were doing weird things that made you go, what's up with this? The first scene where he's playing drums, the glasses on, I was like, well, that thing you do just came out shades. This whole thing was he wore the sunglasses inside while he played the drums. And then the next scene he's playing softball.

[00:09:31] So like not baseball softball with his buddies, which is weird. And then you see that he has really great hearing. And I, and at that point I, in my head, I went, well, it's not like he's blind or anything. This is just a weird thing that's going on. Yeah. So he's blind. He's blind. He's blind. He's blind. And that's, that's the thing about him. Andy Lawrence is blind. Andy Lawrence is blind in this movie. That's right. He's not thrilled about the fact that he is moving to Utah because New York city is the best.

[00:10:01] I've got my whole, like everything's great here. It's going to be wonderful. New York city. Imagine he doesn't know if he can get a kosher hot dog in Utah. I mean, that's huge. That's huge. Um, and we all know how important hot dog vendors are. Hot dog culture. Yeah. It's huge. H G H. I mean, when you, when you pass away, you will leave them in your will. Yeah, that's right. You have to, you got to. Um, so he, uh, moves to Salt Lake city, uh, I think, or Utah at the very least. Wayne Brady says Salt Lake at one point, but I don't know.

[00:10:28] Um, and so he's not thrilled about this and immediately kind of just starts like being, I don't, he's kind of grumpy. He's like, I'm from New York, you know, back off. Um, and he bumps into, uh, Jock John. So we like to call him John. Yeah. Um, and they kind of start ragging on each other. So like this guy's like, what are you blind? And he's like, Oh, that's funny. And then they start like going back and forth.

[00:10:56] And it's hard to like, no, at this point in time, if Jock John is like, pick it up on what Jason's putting down. Like, are they just going to be like buddies that rag on each other? They're not. Um, Jock John is a bully and the other jocks are bully and they're not very nice, but Jace doesn't just roll over. No, he, he, he dishes it out. Yeah. He dishes it out.

[00:11:21] Um, and so he, uh, is thinking that the way that he is going to fit in, in Utah is the same way he's going to fill, uh, fit in, in New York city, which is crushing the drums. So he goes to music class and they're playing some Bach and he goes into drum solo as you do when, when, when barking it up. And the teacher played by Wayne Brady, Mr. Wyatt is basically gives him a whole, a whole talking to is giving them like a whole talking

[00:11:51] to. And it's like, don't, don't try to make this all about you. It's Bach. There's no solo, blah, blah, blah. And I mean, he's clearly never heard Bach. Bach was known for the drums, um, double bass drum set. Double drum set. Every one of his, even large from Metallica learned was right. Right. Exactly. He was huge on the drums during that period. So, um, and, uh, he's like, I don't know that if he was a better music teacher. That's right. Mr. Wyatt, uh, gives him this whole talking to play by Wayne Brady, going to be a huge part of this movie. There's no doubt about it.

[00:12:20] So he's not really, uh, but what do you mean? He's just not really a big part of this movie. I will say this. He has a few scenes and they're all great. You may not have to mention him the rest of the way, but if you're listening to this and you've not watched the movie, as we move along in the plot, imagine about every 20 to 23 minutes, there is a scene with Jace and Wayne Brady where Wayne Brady imparts some sort of sage advice, like the end of Rudy and he's Charles S. Dutton. And then we don't see him ever again.

[00:12:50] And then 23 minutes later, he'll pop up and do it again. Three or four times. He doesn't show up for Jace when it matters. He doesn't show up at the big events. Well, what's so special about Wayne that he would have such a connection with Jace? Well, Brian, do you want to tell him? Well, yeah, he's blind. He's blind. He's just like Jace. Yeah. He's just like Jace. Um, they, they let him know that because he, uh, Jace is like, you don't know, you don't know, get what I'm coming from or whatever. And he says, I understand more than anybody and walks away.

[00:13:18] And that's when Mary Beth, um, who he becomes. No, it's not Mary Beth. Oh, is it just some random girl? Just some random girl. Random girl says, he's just like you. And he's like, oh man, that's tough. Um, I would almost could take, I don't know if someone said that to me, if I was blind and someone said, he's just like you. Oh, so he shreds on the drums. Just like, like, I would have been like, in what way? Where Jace immediately knows, oh, he's blind. And I just feel like, I don't know. I feel like Jace was like, oh, so he's white.

[00:13:47] And they're like, no, no, New York. He's from New York? No, he might be, but. Yeah. So I, I, there was a better way to have that interaction. A better way, but they didn't do it that way. Um, so Jace. It's like they, it was too insensitive for them to have her say, he's blind too. This movie. Yeah. He can say, he's just like you. He's just like you. Listen, this movie is a hundred minutes long. We didn't have time for exposition. No. No. Just like you. Oh, I got it. But as you're watching this movie, when you get to the, when you get to the point where

[00:14:15] you realize that it's been too long since Wayne Brady's on the screen, don't worry. He's going to be in the next scene. That is like, they've timed it out perfectly to where, when you start getting restless, because Wayne hasn't been around in a while, he's in the next scene. Don't worry. Um, he, uh, Jace ends up making a couple of friends. First is fly. Uh, that's what everyone calls him. Uh, because his last name's shoe. That's the work that we're doing. We're doing it. Mainly Aaron did the work because he says his full name. Yeah. He says his name is Vince shoe shoes.

[00:14:45] Shoo fly. Yeah. I mean, we had to do a lot of work there cause he never wants to explain fly, but whatever when meeting adults, he's like, my name is Vince shoe. You can call me fly. Yeah. Um, and then there's Mary Beth, uh, who I thought was already in the movie, but I guess she wasn't. And he meets her in the first scene. They are. That's right. They are your reader reader. They are in band together. They go to like, uh, the football thing and they're playing and they're doing this whole thing.

[00:15:13] And he basically is talking about how, you know, he wants to try to figure out a way to fit in. And they're like, really the only way you fit in around here is through athletics. And Mary Beth is like, well, how about you give wrestling a shot? And, uh, at first Jason's like, that's like, what are you talking about? Like, yeah, no one can wrestle. Like blind kids can't wrestle. And she's like, Oh, you want to, you want to bet? She knows a lot about wrestling and we find out that is because one, her brothers wrestle

[00:15:40] and two, uh, her dad is the wrestling coach. And that was definitely something that we knew early on, early on immediately. Yeah. Not, of course we did not piece that together later on. Yeah. Well, she doesn't explain it till later on. That's true. Yeah. And so fly kind of like goes along with him to, to figure out the whole wrestling thing. And that's the way that, uh, they were going to get Jace to give it a shot flies. Like I'll do it with you. It'll be a whole thing.

[00:16:06] And, um, they both make the team, uh, because the coach says basically everybody is welcome. So I think everybody makes the team. There's about a hundred people. There's a lot of people, but they make the team and that's important. Um, early on Jace begins is struggling with wrestling and, um, everybody's giving him a hard time. The whole, uh, wrestling squad is giving him a hard time. At one point, uh, Jace like hits his head, uh, throws his head back and hits one of the kids in the nose.

[00:16:35] And that's not good for, for anybody. Right. Because that kind of accident in wrestling practice on the first day of wrestling practice, that kind of accident would only happen if you're blind, if you're blind, it wouldn't happen in any other way. That's exactly right. Yeah, that's exactly right. And so, um, he starts to hang out with Mary Beth, um, who gives him some good advice. One, you got to stop being a jerk. You're not being, you're not being kind. Wrestling's like dancing. And wrestling's like dancing.

[00:17:03] And so obviously they start dancing together. It's a whole thing. He's, she's given him lessons. She knows a lot about wrestling. Um, and then, you know, he touches her face. Um, he was touching. Yeah. It's a weird bit where she makes a joke about how she's ugly. And he could have said, I think after touching her face, he says something like somebody with a heart is beautiful as yours. Couldn't be ugly or something like that face to match the heart. Yeah.

[00:17:33] Unfortunately, but he then like had to touch her face without even saying like, can I tell you like, it was just, and we're not going to do that here. No, but I do love his whole thing is, is like, you have a, your heart is great. So you're beautiful. Yeah. Beautiful. But he's like, I do have to like, just make sure. Well, no, to be fair, make sure. It is a real awkward scene, but he's like, no, you shouldn't say that you're beautiful.

[00:18:01] And then she says, how would you know? And I believe that is when he decides his face touching time. Y'all. I believe. How would you know? Yeah. Um, cause if you didn't know at this point, he's blind. Um, he's blind. Yeah, that's right. That's exactly right. That's right. Um, and I think after she said, how would you know, he could have been just said someone with a heart is beautiful. Like he could have done the line without. He didn't have to touch your face. Right. That's what we're getting at is you don't have to touch someone's face without their consent.

[00:18:31] And I think the weird, the thing that made that scene weirder is that she doesn't react to him touching the face. Yeah. It's not a, oh my gosh, this boy's touching my face or oh my gosh. Yes. This is like, oh, here's another boy touching my face. Here it is. Face touching Tom. Unfazed. Unfazed. Mary Beth is unfazed by someone touching her face. Well, I think even if, even if someone asked if they could touch my face, you're going to react in some way.

[00:18:58] I would still like, yeah, there is, it's not a common occurrence and I would react either slightly flinging or your face would react. Do something. Do something. She's motionless. Statue. Yeah. Face pretty. At least half of it. And that's what he really touches the left side. He doesn't know what that strong sounds about. That's right. He doesn't have any idea. And as we've learned here, right sides are a whole different. Yeah. It's a whole different thing. You don't want to know. Offensive. Offensive.

[00:19:27] So he, what you need to know about Jace is Jace is a very hard worker. He likes working hard and he is, he shreds the guitar. He crushes the drums. So why would wrestling be any different? He lifts the weights. He lifts the weights. He's very strong. He's a strong dude. And so he is putting in the work. He's getting better and better. You know, doing the two steps. He's beginning to show that he's kind of got, got what it takes.

[00:19:56] And the wrestlers kind of start softening. They go from bullying him. They are bullying him. Some. The coach has to straighten him out a few times. Yeah. There's a moment when they put a piece of paper on his back right before his first or second match that like they draw an eye and they cross through it. Real clever boys. Yeah. You get that one on big boy bullies. Um, and so. Big bully world. Yeah. Big bully. Yeah. Um, and so he, uh, but they start kind of coming over to his side, which is, which is, uh, nice.

[00:20:26] And in doing so fly begins to feel like, Hey, yeah, they were the outcast together. Yes. Yeah. Fly's just this little guy and no one cares about him. He's not getting any better at this point in time. And so he's, uh, John is failing Spanish. Yes. I was going to say he does. Yeah. And obviously Jace is fluent in Spanish. He knows Spanish so well. So he's going to tutor him. And then Jack John.

[00:20:55] I mean, is his name John at all? Are we just calling him John John? I just, uh, he's going to help him with wrestling. And I do want to camp out on how extraordinary this child is because most John, no, Andy Lawrence, Jace, he, most folks that have a visual impairment or hearing impairment, a foreign language is not part of the curriculum, not because they cannot do it, but because they are maximizing the accommodations around them.

[00:21:24] And not only is Jace an amazing concert level drummer, not only is he a natural at wrestling, he is basically fluent in Spanish. Like where, where'd this kid come from? Well, that's, I said it at one point during the movie, but it's like guitar too. How does he have enough time to master all the things that he's good at? There's not enough time for an audio Spanish lesson. Yeah. What? He's good at baseball. He's good at basketball.

[00:21:54] He's getting good at wrestling. It's unbelievable. He's amazing on the drum and guitar. And I will say if the point is, is that like, Hey, everyone can do everything with, with, with an even playing field and the right accessibility, then good on you. But no high school kid is this much of a savant. Yeah. No one. That's crazy. They overcompensate it. Yeah. Yeah. By making him a master at everything. Um, but, uh, I'm not upset about it.

[00:22:20] He, uh, he does work with, uh, with jock John and that's when jock John begins to realize, Oh, this guy's not so bad, uh, which is great. He then makes up with fly. Um, when he decides that he's actually going to choose hanging out with fly over going to a cool party, cool daytime party. Um, and they, he's like, Hey, here's what Mary Beth taught me. And they dance together. And then fly becomes good at wrestling. Yeah. And also dancing technique.

[00:22:47] The fact that coach didn't, that didn't do this dancing technique. That's crazy. But also we're getting some random matches throughout the year. May I introduce you to first match may or introduce you to mid mid season match. May I introduce you to regular season match number 10. Number 10. Don't forget it. May I introduce you to regular season match. The last match. Uh, like there are a lot of random titles. And as we go, you do see, he's getting better at wrestling.

[00:23:12] You also see that, uh, jock John's having some problems, but people are accepting it. And we also get introduced to one T-Rex, which I'll give it back to you. Brand. Well, T-Rex is a big deal. Uh, huge deal. And it's not really much screen time as Wayne Brady. Yes. That's true. And it's not, uh, really talked about more. Yeah. T-Rex isn't something or someone that, uh, Jace is really going to have to worry about because that's, that's jock John's competition. That's jock John's jock John's competition.

[00:23:42] He's got to make weight though. He's got to make weight and he does. And jock John does make weight and they do have battle. I believe it is an end of C regular season, final match. John loses, um, exhausted from, well, he spent two days working out, not eating to drop six pounds. That's right. That's right. And then he, surprisingly, surprisingly, that's not a healthy way to lose weight.

[00:24:06] So healthy thing to have high school as they're, as they're preparing for regionals, regionals, finals, whatever it's called, um, coach is like, Hey, mid season number regional regular season. Jock, jock John, um, T-Rex isn't your battle anymore. Jace is going to, is going to take on T-Rex. There's also a reporter that's trying to John is facing faceless Joe. Sure. Well, I think Joe faceless, I believe, but I think that's a fake person that they made up. They're just like in anybody.

[00:24:36] I don't think, yeah, I don't know. Joe faceless. You thought Joe faceless was real. It's hard to say. I thought it was like a nickname, like T-Rex. No, it's like, God forbid there's faceless Joe in the same movie as T-Rex. That'd be crazy. Joe faceless, last name faceless. Yeah. Like Tracy, no last name. Tracy, no last name. Uh, there's a reporter around that is trying to, trying to in the locker room with children, trying to write like an inspiration porn story where it's like this blind kid is wrestling. Look how amazing.

[00:25:06] Like it's one of those and Jace resents it and slowly but surely he learns a lesson from Wayne Brady. And also his team starts to join him in treating him like it's not just about an inspiration situation. That's exactly right. Yeah. Um, it is time for the big match. Um, and he's going to go up against T-Rex. It's a big deal. And if there's, if there's one thing you needed to know about T-Rex, what would that be? He likes legs. T-Rex likes legs.

[00:25:34] He's barely going to go after your legs in the match. It's going to be a ton of flipping legs. It's going to be almost, it's going to be almost entirely flipping, but he does like legs and you should know that going into it. Um, I would say for 90% of this match, I'm, I'm convinced that T-Rex is beating him very easily. Yeah. But they keep cutting to the scoreboard and it's pretty even. There's an 18, there's a 12, there's a 34, there's a 29.

[00:26:04] I was pretty convinced that, uh, Jace was going to break an arm from how many times he just flipped like five or six times. He gets in a pretty deep arm bar there and it looks not good. Listen, if anybody is, is listening to this episode and understands wrestling point systems, could you maybe watch this final match and then let us know? I thought it was like a first to three situation and then I see 34, 29, 18 and 12 up there and I don't know what's going on.

[00:26:33] Some flips are two, some flips are three. An escape is worth one. Yeah. Um, but then also sometimes you can flip somebody and the ref has it within his power to say no points. No points. And I don't like, when is a no pointer? I mean, you don't necessarily, cause they're timed, so you don't necessarily have to pin someone. So then it would go to the point system. I do know that much, but how points are awarded. I don't quite get. Yeah.

[00:26:59] Um, so if there's anyone who's a little bit more knowledgeable of that, like, please watch national regional final championship. Number two. Regular season number two. Yeah. Before, but not States. Um, but if you could just let us know how that worked, cause I didn't think Jace was anywhere near T-Rex. But also they do this thing where it feels like a classic Disney movie. He's going to come back and win it all. And then we hear in the last round, it's a, they say it, he's got to pin him to win, pin to win.

[00:27:29] And then he does pin him and he does not win. Well, he doesn't, he doesn't fully pin him. He doesn't. Yeah. Cause he, they, they did enough to make it to state. He got enough points for the team. So he pin him. He didn't fully pin him. So he loses the match to T-Rex, but the moves that he did at the end gave the team enough points to win. And that's why they're going to state. So it just means like other people on his team, enough of them won. Like fly. Yeah. Fly one.

[00:27:58] I think Jock John. Jock John beat a faceless Joe. So then it comes down to faceless. It's like in some respect on the faceless world cup. Um, you know, you can catch the snitch and not win. You know, it's one of those situations. Exactly. So, um, so anyway, in the books, anyway, in the movie, you catch the snitch, it's over. You win automatically. Right? Well, well, no, you can, you catch the snitch. The game is over, but it's a point system. So the other team has more points. You can catch the snitch and still lose in the books. That's explained in the movie.

[00:28:28] They pretty much say, if you catch the snitch, you win. Right. They do say like, yes. Okay. Cause in the books, they never say that. They say you, you probably win. But in the fourth movie at the Quidditch world cup, Bulgaria still loses. In the book or the movie. Both. I've not seen the movie in forever and I've not read the book at all. So I just know that. I'm pretty sure Ireland wins, but Con catches the snitch. When I watch the movies. And Harry Potter won, that is what they say. Okay. Sorry. We're going. If you catch the snitch, you win.

[00:28:55] And then I read the book and I was like, this makes more sense than just having the snitch out there. I can't get through either watching this movie or talking about this movie without going off on some book tangent because that's more interesting to me than this rest of the movie. Wait until Zandu or whatever. Zayden? Zayden. Zayden. We call him Zandu. Here's what happens. T-Rex is like, hey, I'm going to see you again at States. And you're going down again. There is a cute moment where, you know, the ref lifts up T-Rex's hand because he won.

[00:29:23] And then T-Rex grabs Jace's hand and also lifts it up. The news reporter is there and he tries to do the story again. But all of the teammates are basically like, he's not blind. We have a blind kid on our team? What? It's a great bit where they're like, who's blind? Yeah. Yeah. And the movie ends. And his parents look adoringly on like, aww. Look at that, friends. We're never going back to New York. And so. Coach or hot dogs who? That's right. Don't need them. And the movie ends with afterwards he comes out.

[00:29:53] He thanks his parents for coming. And then he goes and he tells like, Mary Beth, you want to dance? You know what that means. And he brings out his iPod. Yeah. But nope, it's his recorder that he is. Tape recorder. Which I thought he was using primarily for notes, but I guess also slow jams. Got it queued up on a slow jam. Yeah. He has that tape recorder queued up on a slow jam. Ready to go. And they and they dance in the almost the center of the court. And that that was going to the mat. That's exactly right. Let's do this. Let's take a break. We'll come back. We will.

[00:30:21] We'll talk about the movie and how it aged over time and we'll make our list. That's O and M everybody here on Decondescending. See what happens when you give us a chance. It's like weird Jace. Welcome back, everybody. It's time for overtime. So we're talking about how this movie aged over time. I have some letterbox reviews if you guys want them. I love them. Mm hmm.

[00:30:47] Up first, we have a review from Rach that says go into the mat walk so that daredevil could run, which they make a daredevil joke in this movie. So I don't know how well that pretty sure the been aft like daredevil was out before this. But I appreciate the attempt, Rach. Emily says Emily says five stars. I almost quit the tab when I saw that it was the horse sense kid again. This better be his last D comp. Is it? I think so. I think it might. God, there's so many.

[00:31:16] But how about Emily sticking it out and giving it five stars? Wow. Brian M. Wrong says it's a kid friendly whiplash with a blind kid who wrestles. I did have whiplash feels early on in the movie with how they're rushing the drum stuff. Yes. Oscar says watched in Madrid instead of going out and experiencing the city. Stand by the decision. Why? Oh, what is that? Atisha? Utica? Utica! How'd you get a T-shirt? Utica pedestrian.

[00:31:49] Two and a half stars. Here's a quote from the movie. You're going down. I don't know. A brain knows how to read. You're going down. Next quote. Yeah. All over you. Okay. Pause. Okay. And then that's a real line. There were a few lines like that in this movie. Yeah, there were. And then this one is for all the people that noticed Chris Nolan's credit in this movie. Bri film says, well, I sure hope Oppenheimer is better as a better Chris Nolan film than this one. Of course.

[00:32:19] Let's share our thoughts on this movie. I'll start with you, Aaron. Aaron, you saw it. You saw it as a kid. You saw it now. What do you think about going to the map? Yeah. Yeah. I do remember seeing this when it first came out. Probably only because it was Andy Lawrence and that was enough of a draw for me to watch this movie because nothing else about it would have been for 13 year old Aaron sports. Just a bunch of boys playing sports. No, I want girls inheriting islands and forming girl groups. Duh.

[00:32:47] Um, so I don't know. The only thing I really remember is that he's blind and then he wrestles and that stands true. Uh, he's blind and he learns how to wrestle. Would have told you that Wayne Brady was a much bigger part of this movie. We all would have not seen it. I mean, I had seen it as a kid and I knew who Wayne Brady was cause I loved whose line is it anyway? Um, yeah, Wayne Brady is barely in this movie and that was probably a big disappointment.

[00:33:16] Like he's not, and when he is in there, he's not funny. He's trying to have a serious role. I don't know if the movie is fine. It's going to be middle of the pack for me. Um, it might be the best Lawrence brother joint become from an acting standpoint. From an acting standpoint. Definitely. So yeah, I don't know guys. Um, yeah, I think Andy did a good job at this one. Uh, I agree. Uh, and I think everybody would echo the need for more Wayne Brady.

[00:33:45] I think a serious Wayne Brady is inspiring AF and I loved every scene that he was in and I just can't believe that it was less than whatever you're thinking. Yeah. Take it down. Take it down. It's, it's the less and, and that's somehow crazy, but I thought the movie was good. And I thought that, uh, that, uh, uh, our boy zero from holes. It was great to see him. Um, I think he should be in more things. Yes. Yes, he should. I don't know if he can act anymore, but as a kid he crushed it and I'm surprised that

[00:34:15] we, this is the only two things that I know him from. You don't know if he can act. I don't know if he still has. I don't know. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I don't know if he's done anything in a long time, but, uh, he's great and holes and he's great in this. And, uh, yeah, I thought this movie was really solid. Dano. Uh, yeah, this is a really high quality, bad D come. And so it is the acting in this movie is well above average for D come. Uh, when Wayne Brady's F on the call sheet, you've got a pretty stacked cast, uh, Wayne Brady giving inspirational speeches. I love that.

[00:34:45] I love that. And Chris Nolan writing it too. Yeah. One of them. Uh, I think Andy Lawrence has never been better, but the movie is not good. And I think that is the big problem is, is there's a lot that I like about this movie. Um, you know, true confessions was offensive and it's, I will never watch it again. And this movie does a lot to make up for that in how you treat people, no matter what walk of life they come from and what it means to make accessibility for all and treat people

[00:35:14] as human beings, no more, no less. And, and so this movie does those things, right? It has great acting in it, but it is a mess. It's overstuffed. The wrestling barely makes sense. The band stuff is there for some reason, and then not enough and simultaneously too much. The love interest stuff is there and simultaneously not enough and too much. And his family life is there and not enough and simultaneously too much.

[00:35:40] This movie could have been 30 minutes shorter or longer as it stands. None of it really gets what it deserves. And so you've got great acting. You've got a really solid message and you've got a movie that is unfortunately, it just doesn't work. Um, so I'm in a tough spot because I think the acting of this movie is probably top 15 acting, but I don't think it's a top 15 movie. Uh, so I know where I've placed it now. I just, it's a matter of if it stays there, different stories.

[00:36:09] I think mine'll move. Like I got to wait the same thing. Like I really liked the people in this movie, but the movie as a whole doesn't work for me. Correct. Yeah. So it is somewhere right now. And I, I just have to weigh it based on other movies. Like I don't, I don't know. So a really quick, quick, quick sidebar. Uh, Chris Nolan, not that Chris Nolan. I wanted to see what else he had done. And I just got a kick out of his IMDB. Cause it says Chris Nolan is known for, I kissed a vampire 2009.

[00:36:38] I kissed a vampire 2010. He wrote the same thing twice, which is crazy. One was a TV show musical, apparently. What? Uh, starring Drew Seely as a character named Trey Sylvania. Um, and then also a movie version of the show that came out a year later. Uh, we need to get Drew Seely on this pod. Also, also Drew Seely. So I don't know if they took the show and made it a movie. I don't know. I don't know what happened.

[00:37:06] I don't know if they, they hallmarked it and they said, Hey, we have a movie. Let's put it up in the shows. And they said, well, he made a mistake. I don't know. But I love that it was just same credit twice. That's great. Um, let's make our list. Let's check it twice. Uh, let's see, uh, where this movie is going to land. Erin? Yeah. Um, so this movie I have debuting at 34, uh, right behind genius and right ahead of horse sense. You have genius all the way down at a 35. I don't like that movie. Wow. It is at 33. How dare you?

[00:37:36] You said right ahead. Oh, my bad. Okay. I switched it. You're good. Um, yeah, I, I think I enjoyed the acting performance. The characters in this movie. I think I liked more than a bunch of other movies I've seen, but plot wise, I don't know. I don't know. Okay. Whatever. Any changes to your top 10? No. Um, Scream team, Miracle Lane 2, Get A Clue, Eddie's Million Dollar Cook-off, Phantom of

[00:38:00] the Megaplex, Smart House, Johnny Tsunami, Right on Track, Cadet Kelly, and Brink. Just kidding. What across? Every time you say right on track, I'm always like, what is that movie? And then I have to look it up. It's the track movie. Yeah. Um, every time I'm like, what, what is that? I've so, that movie just did not land for me at all. Um, so this movie I have at 18. Um, I have it one above, uh, ironically, right on track. Um, and then, uh, right behind You Wish. Right on track.

[00:38:30] Um, no changes for brand. 10, Luck of the Irish. 9, Phantom. 8, Full Court Miracle. 7, Smart House. 6, Eddie's Million Dollar Cook-off. 5, Cadet Kelly. 4, Get A Clue. 3, Motocrossed. 2, Johnny Tsunami. And number one, the greatest movie of all time, Brink. I have going to the mat at 20. Hey! I'm not happy with that ranking. I have simultaneously think it should be lower and higher. I'll explain myself. I look behind it and I see Xenon and I'm like, this movie is better acted than Xenon,

[00:38:59] but Xenon, I like the whole message of the whole movie and the swing of it. So I kind of think Xenon's better, but then I look ahead of this movie and I have the other me and the other me is not as good a performance from Andy Lawrence. And so, but it's a great, I thought of this too. It's a great performance from Tui. Correct. But it is, this movie is quite the conundrum. It currently sits at 20. I don't see it getting much higher than that, but also we could, I don't know. Top 10 hasn't changed. 10, Miracle in lane 2. 9, Full Court Miracle. 8, Scream Team.

[00:39:29] 7, Get A Clue. 6, Eddie's Million Dollar Cook-off. 5, Cadet Kelly. 4, Phantom of the Megaplex. 3, Mom's Got a Date with a Vampire. 2, Johnny Tsunami. Number one, Motocross. Nobody touching. Nobody touching it. And I think next week is not going to touch Motocross either, as much as I love next week. Up next, we have Xenon. Xenon. Xenon. Xenon. Xenon. Xenon. Xenon. Xenon. Xenon. Xenon. Xenon. Xenon. Xenon. Xenon. Xenon. Xenon.

[00:40:10] Xenon. Xenon. Xenon. Xenon. Xenon to the map. Xenon ! The Cowdescendants is a Bramble Jam podcast that will be a Bramble sandbox. Network Studios.
