[00:10:32] It was great. I Worked at McDonald's and then I worked for I use They paid me for that hourly if you can believe it and then I worked in the summers I always worked at the car lot in town

[00:10:43] Like washing the cars and moving them and getting gas in them and taking them to mechanics and stuff. It was great That's not I did not love work like this dude loves work. No, he loves work He's addicted to work than do anything else. Yeah, so

[00:10:58] It was Coles yours, yeah, it's Coles Great so at this particular theater this year has been around for a long time at one point It was torn down and they built up a new one

[00:11:12] There was a rumor historically that one of the big movie fans was trapped inside when it got demolished 1920s and now kind of haunts the theater and he is known as Thank you

[00:11:28] There is a big and so anytime anything goes wrong Aaron since you're the only one paying attention right now Well save it for the freaking making the list segments I'm listening to I'm doing two things at once you're listening and Listening, that's right

[00:11:47] So anytime anything goes wrong at the theater they go it's the Phantom fan it's like big funny ha ha's Kind of like what we do here in the office. We have we have

[00:13:21] They've made they made midnight mayhem close by and so yeah, I have the premiere here And they're doing the premiere at midnight. Yeah, which is allowing the megaplex You have a open for a normal day of movies Yeah, you know, you know 30 minutes max

[00:13:43] Like we'll go over there what Friday at 5 doors open at 530 we'll go there Friday at 5 We could stretch it to 45 minutes no one those guys know when those guys they'll be late Yeah, probably we'll have it. I've sent three emails to confirm. They've not said that's right

[00:14:00] So that's happening later in the evening We meet a movie theater manager. His name is Sean Sean He's the director of the movie theater and he's the director of the movie theater And he's the director of the movie theater and he's the director of the movie theater

[00:14:15] Movie theater manager. His name is Sean Sean is Pete's boss, but there is still you know, mr. Niedermeyer. Mr. Niedermeyer who is potentially gonna give Sean a promotion to general manager Yeah But he gets a call and he's not gonna get it It's going to

[00:14:34] Day of the big world premiere of this giant. Yeah, you know how you want to break that bad news to your employees What city is this supposed to be in? 26 Green Theater. It can't be a small town. I think it might be jambos town Jambos town. Yeah

[00:14:51] Are you sure? I'm like 80% sure Like Reno Reno. Yeah, I could be Reno Could be Reno. Well, let you know. Yeah, we will and we meet some other characters like racy lacy She's above board guys question mark

[00:15:09] Question mark movie mason mason mickey rooney love them and all sorts of other characters that all have fun nicknames Hillary honey or honey Hillary. Yeah Who's the one who's always concerned? Rules Rick Rick Rick rolls Rick rolls So Pete is really excited about That's right

[00:15:37] You know Hallmark Daddy So Pete's really excited about this. He once again. He loves his job and the idea of Having a big premiere at his job is really exciting for him But he also got his crush Caitlin some tickets to the pro

[00:15:55] And she's gonna be there early. So we got our passes to a movie beforehand and then she's gonna hang around Whoa, don't fear. Whoa But also his kid brother and sister You're working

[00:16:11] His kid brother and sister are also gonna be there because his mom is gonna go out on a date with George And really Pete's just not busy enough He is running a full day of work plus setting up for premiere plus going on a date

[00:16:27] Let's throw in some light babysitting light babysitting because they're both just supposed to be going to Farmer Brown Brown Yeah, it's above board. It's about University of Death. No That's not age-appropriate Power penguins for Incredible movie yes Things immediately start to go wrong

[00:16:51] Including movie mason trying to get people to go to different movies Yeah, as people are coming in movie mason by the way movie mason doesn't actually work at the theater Family owned the old

[00:17:06] Of the movies, yeah, but but uh, Sean Sean doesn't like him hates him in fact Sean is notoriously absent for a lot of this movie aside to tell Mason how terrible he is. That's right And I love movie mason. I love the idea that the local theater has

[00:17:23] This just like nostalgic guy But if I'm trying to see a movie and you hold me up to judge me for my movie choice Listen, I love an Oscar Best Picture winner. Like don't get me wrong

[00:17:35] I want to see some good cinematography some good acting but sometimes I want to go see step up to the streets Yeah, and I need you to not judge me for that movie

[00:17:43] I think that there's a place for bad movies and it's at the theater not being judged by an old dude You know wax poetic about the value of cinema I mean movie mason is flawless aside from this one area now, but he also does his thing

[00:17:59] It's like this movie is what the critics call a stinker I like I like to judge it for myself Like if I see a movie that's getting ragged on by the critics that makes me want to see it more I should be able to do that

[00:18:09] So movie movie Mason's never seeing movies that are below like what percentage on Rotten Tomatoes does he'd like? Yeah, I think there's a sweet spot there Like if it's at 40, you kind of know like if it's a meta metascore of a 38 or 40

[00:18:23] You know, the movie is probably all-around bad if it's like a metascore of like 12 Then it's like ooh, I need to check this check this out like immediately You know

[00:18:34] But then also like the most of them are like 58 to 70 those are movies that some people are gonna love some people are Gonna hate somebody we're gonna be mailed the sweet spot is a movie like Madam Web that gets dragged by all critics except our friend

[00:18:47] Alonzo Duralde Madam Web and Jupiter Ascending. That's right. Yeah, those are the those are the sweet spots right there Even his review of Madam Web though is like hey compared to some others

[00:18:59] That's right. That's right. Yeah, I've seen a lot of movies. This is one of them the other theater movies or DCOMs winning so far in This year This will I think DCOMs Might be still probably close

[00:19:20] 26 at the theater 22 20. This is true number 23 23 becomes the it is gonna win out So the other then Sean tells Mason to get lost scram and he goes down the escalator never to be seen again Beat it bozo scram I run the show here the other movies

[00:19:46] And trust me, it's real bowtie We're gonna find out anything like it's velcro We're gonna focus a lot in this movie on the bowties and how real they are If this podcast had a wait what segment my weight? What would be the bowtie would be in the list?

[00:20:00] There's no doubt about it It just sticks on everything doesn't matter what you're wearing. What is it a pin job? Like what is how does it work? Magic it's a pit. It's still gonna come right out

[00:20:19] And it stays it's the best it's the best bowtie it's magic bowtie So the other movies begin to suffer some problems Glimpses of Genevieve glit you can only see glimpses of it. That's right. It's the the films all messed up They got a call the that guy Cleaver

[00:20:38] The tornado movie has big giant fan. Oh, yeah Farmer Brown farms are crazy. That's right now cows are mooing and stuff Yeah So they did not coincidentally make farmer Brown do anything weird did they I think it is

[00:20:58] Left the children alone. Yeah, leave the kids those kids alone leave the kids alone. No education leave the kids alone University of death everyone in the audience just died got a degree in death They got wild out there passing out degrees on the way out

[00:21:13] So Brian his kid brother is all into the Phantom really believes that all of this is Because of the Phantom and Pete is just kind of like get out of here. You're being ridiculous That's right, oh That's right None of them but Karen and Brian are

[00:21:37] You know, they are going to try to find out where this Phantom is hiding out. What's yes to do? they go down into the nethers of the theaters the basement the basement said literally They go down they go downward To the nethers and they find this hidden

[00:22:00] Workshop of trinkets and other weird stuff and they're like all kinds of movie memorabilia Brian is like this has got to be the Phantom Because well first he thinks he's dying because there is a light at the end of the that's right. That's right

[00:22:14] But he does assume that this room is the Phantom's room and is at this point that movie Mason Pops out of nowhere and goes. Hello children. Hello. It's me movie Mason

[00:22:25] There's a photo of fan poster for Phantom of the Opera, which was the first movie ever shown at the original theater. So obviously It's the Phantom of the Megalaxes hideout, right? so you wouldn't hang up in with the opera movie Mason then gives

[00:22:41] The monologue of the century speech straight out of Sorkin and Wasn't weird at all just about how amazing the movies are and in all liver spots and liver spots in time Liver spots come The mind goes that's right. I'm I guess Yes now

[00:23:04] Pete was supposed to bring the kids home on his 30 can't things are going crazy Totally legal Sean canceled all dinner breaks. Yes mom and George are supposed to come pick them up. They're having some car problems

[00:23:19] They're calling on the payphones and the workers are like no, I don't see anybody And so now they're all scared about way like where are the kids and and all this good stuff

[00:23:28] Meanwhile, we're getting close to the premiere. We sure are Dan folks are about to show up Well, it is all high schoolers working with no adult in charge at all so no, yes People do begin

[00:23:43] Movie gets out at 11 11 15 and the movie premiere start the movie starts at midnight. I can't We're gonna clear out that's gonna take a minute max. Yeah, and then we have a full red carpet Photography media people getting out of their cars

[00:24:01] This is mm like this theater is packed all day. Yes, people are showing up 26 screens there are Thousands of people in this movie theater like if a hundred or any screen that's 2600 I think having low ball at

[00:24:16] 3,000 people in the movie theater that need to get out from 11 15 for a start time of a premiere at 12 and we told All the celebrities that were doing this so they did not show up at 11 expecting an 11 p.m

[00:24:27] Car of course not they did they do show up and so Pete comes running out there Sean Sean is back and he's like it Sean has also been found a couple of times

[00:24:41] Like taped up. Yeah roped up. Yeah, and everyone's like what's going on there? And he's like the Phantom got me again And so they go out the red carpet event begins movie Mason's back Movie Mason apparently knows the star of the movie

[00:24:58] And so they from the town has been mentioned so many times No, it's just like a normal thing that everybody knows He's her plus one. Yes, and so she that really makes Sean match on like ah dad got my movie Mason and so they all funnel in and

[00:25:19] We are hopeful at this point that everything is is finally gonna go right They've got the the trait that there was this weird trailer that was playing ahead of it And they've gotten that all figured out and so hopefully everything is good to go good to go

[00:25:32] Neither Meyer as everybody begins to walk in He asked Sean where is my big balloon? That's supposed to be on the roof and Sean's like a giant monster balloon It should be up there and he sends

[00:25:44] Pete's and the siblings up there to write and what's her name and at this point he then there's balloons up there and the string dangles down They're supposed to be balloons Dan they're supposed to be Spoiler alert Dan for the love it's literally coming in a minute

[00:26:04] That is All of the balloons come down and they're filled with gallons of water Yeah, all of these superstars from Hollywood Stopping wet just it's a mess if you watch the scene. I don't think any of the balloons actually break

[00:26:29] I do think they are just like throwing they're killing people Balloons are killer ginormous because a balloon that big like it's not no, that's that's got a few gallons of water That's a lot of water. It's like hitting somebody with a jug of water. That's right. Yeah

[00:26:45] Have you guys will seem parentrap with Lindsay Lohan? Yes yeah in the in the cabin scene where they do all the pain there's a giant water balloon in that and they had to put

[00:26:53] Like pins in her hair for the balloon to hit it and pop because the balloon that big wouldn't pop on its own Yeah, I was watching this scene curious to see if the balloons would pop in a lot of them just like hit and like rolled

[00:27:05] Off. Yeah, but they're all soaking wet not their best But the kids are up there. They're about to crack the case yes, the kids go up on the roof and They are like man. The monster is gone. Just like Neimeyer said that's crazy

[00:27:19] And then Pete's is like hey you guys were right about me work I'm working too much and he has a sweet like heart to heart and that's when the Phantom shows up jumps from higher than the roof and

[00:27:32] puts a big old sack over their heads and ties them up real good and now all these the three kids and two kids and Pete are now Okay, three kids the three kids are now covered and roped so they can't move and it is time for the premiere

[00:27:52] The director of the movie comes up and says welcome to midnight mayhem This is gonna be amazing without further ado, let's watch the movie and at this point

[00:28:02] They started to hear some movement and up on the balcony this were no one sitting as a premier. Yes, they begin to see the Dinosaur the dinosaur that's been missing is is now inflating inside the theater is falling down on people and they are

[00:28:19] They are not responding. Well the people they think it's the rapture It is an inflatable dinosaur and they are running around like it is like Actively everyone's dead. Yes, that's what that's what

[00:28:32] There are smaller inflatables blocking both exits, right? So as this thing is getting bigger and filling up more space, they can't get out Yes, so there is a bit of panic. Yeah, but the amount of panic does not equal inflatable

[00:28:47] Later that they could just have walked behind the screen The screen kind of draped like a movie theater screen but really more like a bed sheet. Yes. Yes So the kids up on the roof, they're able to scurry over to a valve which in some way

[00:29:03] Yes in some way I think we all have To so don't even test we do a valve test every Monday. Yeah, we love we tie ourselves up There's not didn't we had to match them but you guys do the full

[00:29:23] Okay, that's interesting. We practice getting out of hijinks. Okay getting out of hygiene. We expected to join us next week. Yeah, okay They get out luckily Hijinks will ensue at some point will ensue. You're right. They run down into the theater

[00:29:38] they see that the they are blocked by the inflatables and then they go up and they see the giant dinosaur and Pete says I know just what to do and Luckily this movie theater also is simultaneously running a promotion Yeah, so it's done. It's a

[00:29:53] Merlin on Mars. Ah, yeah, and it's a promotional tie-in for Merlin on Mars and basically it's a gimmick But every 10,000 pulls the sword does come out and you get 50 bucks 50

[00:30:05] Tickets so way more than 50 bucks and someone had just put actually the bully. Here's the good news about that promotion It's a real sword, it's a real sword if a four-year-old is up there on the 10,000th pull they will pull out a fully sharpened

[00:30:21] Sword that they cannot possibly wield. Yeah, and that's just the risk Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's why you know, you roll the dice sometimes with these promotions luckily Merle Reject her yeah, who knows everything the projectionist Does not I project things I think we're all projecting

[00:30:46] Didn't know that there was a switch. So he is literally trying to pull it 10,000 times But the switch people are panicking we have time He gets to sort out Thanks to the on-off switch runs up to the balcony jumps off the balcony

[00:31:01] Onto the inflatable dinosaur and begins to stab it and deflates the dinosaur and everybody loves it. They do here and then they see the phantom and he's there and Everyone reacts and does something to stop him. No one does except for the 17 year old. I got a sword

[00:31:22] I've got a sword go they run behind the Screen Responsibly 17 He runs behind the screen and we then see via shadows the fight that Pete and the Phantom have it's a bit of a tussle

[00:31:45] He's got it right guys manages a 26 screen theater like got it, right? Who am I? Yeah to give this guy help. You know, I mean they

[00:31:55] Do they come through the screen or something happens that gets them back to the other side to where he can tackle the Phantom pull off the mask and Movie Mason. Nope, it's Sean

[00:32:08] Sean movie manager Sean who just found out earlier in the day that he's not getting the promotion All he wanted on this night was to be noticed. So he certainly has done. He's not getting a promotion at maybe lunchtime Mm-hmm and plans all of this I

[00:32:28] Think he'd been thinking about it because Niedermeyer has been disrespecting him for a while But he thinks he's getting a promotion until noon the day of the premiere Crazy F'ing pranks just in case I don't get the promotion on the day of the premiere. Oh, yeah

[00:32:49] I don't get it promoted here That's why every day over you every day. I walk into work. Would that be Aaron? You didn't get it we brought here But that's why I bring a six-pack to work every day in case just in case that's right

[00:33:09] It's a just in case six-pack. That's right. He brings a just in case Phantom suit But we all have our the Phantom suit, okay, but in every movie theater he set up elaborate Yeah, he did Ready to go

[00:33:22] Okay, I will say the most the most elaborate one join our hijinks practice session. That's true That's true. And I don't He figured out a how to rig a projector in a way that the projectionist couldn't figure out so

[00:33:40] And he did that in his spare time. Yeah, and it's for fun the premiere for funsies So he gets fired the director though runs up to Sean is like hey, I want to make a movie with your story blah blah blah That's right Niedermeyer then offers Pete

[00:34:00] The promotion that would he's basically gonna be the new Sean and Mr. Manchin It's a salary position. I mean you got all kinds of he's still in school, right?

[00:34:12] Like he the Sun a theater is open during the day. He would not be there, but he turns it down Well, he takes upset and then he looks over at his brother and sister

[00:34:23] Remembers, he just promised to be more of a family man at 17 years old and he's like no I can't do it Yeah, he's like actually no I can't Niedermeyer shocked and again, he's 17 How dare you I think it's even a stretch to say he's assistant when I was

[00:34:41] 23 or 4 and my wife was in med school I was working at Moe's Southwest Grill and I couldn't wait to leave the establishment Just because I didn't want to work in food service and the week before I was gonna leave

[00:34:50] They sat me down there like if you stay here like you're on G you're on GM track Like we want you to know that we don't just say that to anybody and I looked at them like they were crazy

[00:41:41] Take away some of it for me. There was a lot of phantom things. I was like People would have seen him moving around the theater. They would have seen him Dragging a giant fan into a theater and plugging it in

[00:41:56] So there's a lot of that like and I I guess I never really noticed how often Sean is gone so much So like why it like everyone's just like up Sean. That's him

[00:42:05] He's not here, but he's never once a suspect to be the phantom because he hangs himself up by something or another Plot holes in this I wish racy Lacey had any other nickname. Yeah, racy Lacey's tough It's even tougher cuz like she's the only

[00:42:26] character of color in the entire movie I know they do it because they say she's always racing around We could have done a little better Will continue to watch it every Halloween Yeah, it's still a 10 out of 10 in my heart I

[00:44:34] What do you think about this movie Dan? So this movie was made for nine-year-olds me It just was like the beauty of what it means to go to the movies it is Mickey Rooney waxing poetic about the theater and doing so in a way that

[00:44:56] Just like the letterboxd review mentioned in a way like the movies will never leave us That's awesome because we all know now here in 2024 Movies are gonna leave us and that hurts my heart and this movie kind of put a balm on my heart when it came to

[00:45:12] The movies and how much there's a bomb on your heart balm you dummy The wire Yeah, Dan learned in this movie is that when movies leave us he can go live in the basement That's right and surround himself with movie props call me movie better movie Dino

[00:45:29] The liver spots might come that's right. And that's a big deal I Think the thing is is that that stuff really worked for me because when I was a kid I never got to go to the movies when I went it was this magical place that

[00:45:44] They try to pass as magical in this movie so and it's Mickey Rooney. Yeah, not knowing he's a decom He thinks like this is he's really sub high art to this. He sings on the red carpet but I also the flip side of that is is that as

[00:46:02] a 40 year old dude this movie Unfortunately has just all kinds of gaping plot holes And so I even though I did not see this movie as a child I was at war with myself because I wanted not cuz you guys liked it

[00:46:18] I've not liked a movie you guys have liked numerous times But this movie as soon as I saw Mickey Rooney talking about the movies and he's just there There's a guy out at Simpsonville who is there every do you remember this guy?

[00:46:30] Who would always hand out the 3d glasses and the ticket guy and he retired when he retired And he like I just loved everything about that and then the movie itself With a little bit of work could have been like really really really good

[00:46:44] And on and instead we get something that's really really convenient like a lot of plot holes a lot of stuff unexplained But it did move quickly and I do love Love love the movie theater. I love it

[00:46:58] And so I'm at war with myself on this one a little bit because it doesn't hold up It would have been great had I been eight, but I'm not and it doesn't hold up. So there's that Yeah, I think a little bit more work

[00:47:08] So many of those plot holes could have been closed clearly they didn't need to close them because when you guys have kids It's just destroyed rules. Yeah, I didn't think about the logistics of dragging

[00:47:21] This isn't gonna be a problem like he's a phantom. Yeah, I think when you're a kid you're like, oh it's the Phantom Uh-huh. Yeah. Yeah, it's the Phantom. He's magical. Yeah It's time for Making the list is where we make our list

[00:48:05] We've seen and then Aaron I don't have the slightest clue because there there are like ten movies where she's like, oh my gosh I love this movie. It's my favorite movie like the apartheid movie like yeah, like but you Before watching it yesterday I

[00:48:23] Would have thought Phantom would be in my top five, but I I would have thought based upon hearing you top three That's what I would have thought to behind Brink for you and three for you behind. I don't know what yeah

[00:48:38] But watching it guys it's gonna debut on my list at number 11 Oh My god Thing changed from last week Aaron with Okay is now 12. Mom's got a date is 10. Okay? Alright, cuz last week you had a head of Were there tears Man Did you kill your childhood today

[00:51:20] It was a boulder rich was a boulder movie Five miracle lane to four moms got a day with a vampire three smart house to Johnny Tsunami and number one the greatest movie of our generation and any generation break Nope Megaplex army hammer in Oppenheimer Oppenheimer

[00:51:47] They cut the cannibal scenes out There's no way they thought what if we don't bomb what if we just can't yeah considered cannibal If we thought cannibal Phantom of the Megaplex Phantom of the Megaplex
